How to find Sarugak20, the basement curry restaurant by Jeonpo Station
Sarugak20 is a curry restaurant in the basement of a building near Jeonpo Station. Such a pretty name too — Sarugak20! Since it's a basement curry shop, I was curious what it'd be like the whole way down the stairs!!
Going down the stairs and opening the door⁉️ the inside was flooded with sunlight and so pretty... 🤍 Felt kind of like visiting a friend's house, or like I'd found a hideout I wanted to keep to myself...🤍 You know that feeling
(It said they also sell frozen curry!! Priced between ₩5,000-6,000, which sounded tempting after finishing such a good meal)
Inside Sarugak20: floor-seated tables and the look of the room
Even though Sarugak20 is a basement shop, sunlight comes in nicely through the windows, and there are floor-seated tables too. I figured a basement place would feel cozy, but I didn't expect the sunlight to come in this well❕
With the light coming in through the window, the space looked even prettier...! Seeing the staff busily preparing food in the back was such a nice sight too?! I looked around the cute little shop while waiting, excited for the food to come. There are floor-seated tables here where you can sit comfortably, and that's where I sat!
Does Sarugak20 fill up even after 2pm on a weekday?
We went on a weekday, a bit past the usual lunch hour, past 2pm?! But even then customers kept coming in until every table was full⁉️
The location feels a little hidden, but how does everyone know to come here haha. Guess I'm just late to the party on this one...!🥲
Our order: two half-and-half curries, an extra omelet, four croquettes
We ordered two half-and-half curries!! Half-and-half curry lets you try cream curry and special curry together, and it felt like Sarugak's signature menu!!
We added an omelet to one of them. For sides, we ordered two sets of sweet potato cheese croquettes (2 per set), so that's four croquettes total!!
Ta-da, the curry arrived — the plating is so cute ㅠㅠㅠ
When the curry came out, having two different colors on either side of the rice in the middle was so cute ㅠㅠㅠㅠ the cherry tomato in the center was adorable too...! One side is smooth cream curry, the other is rich special curry.
Whenever there are two signature menus, I always agonize over wanting to try both?! So having a half-and-half option at Sarugak made me so happy haha. And it coming out this cute made it even better🤍
The one with the omelet on top is even cuter ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
Special curry vs cream curry: how the two halves taste
On Sarugak20's half-and-half curry, the special curry side has cheese sprinkled on top and it looks so good! The curry color was dark so my spice-sensitive self got a little nervous, but it wasn't spicy at all.
The flavor is rich and deep, like a proper stock!! Where the cheese mixes in, it's savory too🤍
The cream curry on the other side feels much smoother!! Savory with a bit of sweetness, and it went really well scooped up with rice. Taking a bite of special curry then a bite of cream curry gave such a different mood oh wow...! Alternating between two curries with the same rice was such a bargain moment...!

And the sweet potato cheese croquette❕ so glad we ordered it.. If you go to Sarugak, order this without fail, please.....
I was going to take just one photo and stop, but I got curious how far the cheese would stretch so I took another. It just kept going up higher and higher⁉️hahahaha. Sweet potato's sweetness plus cheese — of course that combo would be delicious... You'll definitely regret it if you don't order the croquette ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ🤍🤍
At first, walking in, I thought oh, I've stumbled onto somewhere great🤍 because of the vibe, but after eating, it was the curry and the croquette that stayed on my mind longer❕ Truly a great restaurant......... On a day I'm craving curry in Jeonpo, I want to go back and stretch that sweet potato cheese croquette cheese one more time🤍
