Buffalo wings and corn ribs at a Gyeongpodae burger spot: Burger Bar

I heard there was a place in Gangneung where you could eat a delicious burger while looking at the sea, so I went to check it out — Burger Bar, known as a Gyeongpodae favorite in Gangneung.

Burger Bar sits right in front of Sageunjin Beach, so you can enjoy your meal while looking out at the water. It's not far from Gyeongpodae either, so if you're visiting the Gyeongpodae or Sageunjin Beach area during a Gangneung trip, it's a great place to stop by :)

The exterior caught my eye as soon as I arrived. There were outdoor tables and benches set up in front, and with the sea spread right out beyond the store, it looked like a great spot for eating outside on a nice day.

Ordering at the multilingual kiosk: what's on the burger menu?

Once inside, ordering was simple through a kiosk. You could select from several languages, so tourists could order without any trouble.

Burger Bar has quite a variety of handmade burger options, including the Jumunjin squid burger, lobster burger, mozzarella burger, and smoked grilled chicken burger, among others.

Inside Burger Bar: the room and the self-serve corner

Overall, Burger Bar had a hip, casual vibe. The tables and chairs were clean, and one wall had a colorful graffiti-style mural, giving off a different feel than your typical burger joint. The lighting was soft and comfortable, and the tables weren't packed too close together.

There was also a self-serve area, with water, cups, and utensils all set up for easy access.

The outdoor terrace facing Sageunjin Beach

What I especially liked was that, besides the indoor seating, the outdoor terrace was really well set up too. Sitting at an outdoor table, you can see the sea right in front of you — on a nice day, this is the kind of place that makes you want to eat outside rather than in. The terrace atmosphere matching the sea really gave off that Gangneung-trip feeling, and it was great for taking photos while eating a burger too.

How does the lobster burger taste?

We ordered three things: the lobster burger, Chodang corn ribs, and buffalo wings.

We started with the lobster burger. Between the buns were a thick patty and fresh vegetables, topped with a generous pile of lobster meat and sauce — hearty from the moment you saw it. The lobster meat was more plentiful than I expected, and you could taste the clean, savory flavor of the seafood as you chewed. The cheese and sauce paired well too, giving it a rich, salty flavor that was really good.

Biting in, you got the juiciness of the patty and the flavor of the lobster together, which made it feel different from a regular burger. Eating this generously might just be the charm of a handmade burger.

Sides: Chodang corn ribs and buffalo wings

The Chodang corn ribs (초당옥수수립) we ordered as a side exceeded expectations. It's corn cut into bite-sized pieces and grilled, and the golden-browned parts were especially tasty. The corn's natural sweetness combined with the grilled aroma kept me reaching for more. Eating it in Gangneung, made with local Chodang corn, made it feel even more special!

The buffalo wings came out nicely browned on the outside. The skin was crispy while the meat stayed moist, and dipping them in the sauce that came with it added a savory, slightly spicy kick that went well alongside the burger.

Ordering all three menu items together made for a much heartier meal than just having one burger alone, and eating while looking out at the sea really gave off that Gangneung-trip mood.

After eating, you return your own dishes to a designated tray. You grab whatever utensils or napkins you need yourself, and once you're done, you simply return everything.

Is Burger Bar in Gangneung worth a visit?

Overall, what I liked most about Burger Bar was being able to eat a handmade burger while looking at the sea. The lobster burger was packed generously with ingredients and felt satisfying, and getting to try the Chodang corn ribs and buffalo wings alongside it meant we got to taste a good variety. The place also had a hip, casual atmosphere that made it comfortable to eat in, and I'd especially recommend the outdoor terrace on a nice day, looking out at the sea.
