Gansuk-dong soup restaurant weekend lunch, ₩12,000 sundaeguk: Gukdam

That scorching summer is finally over, and suddenly we've got this slightly cool, even chilly autumn creeping in. The sky was so blue! We were out playing when lunchtime rolled around, and after some thought about where to go, we headed to a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) place our whole family loves!

Where is Gukdam Sundaeguk Main Branch, and its hours and parking

Gukdam Sundaeguk Main Branch, a well-known gukbap (soup with rice) spot in Gansuk-dong, sits on the 1st floor of a commercial building at 8 Namdong-daero 897beon-gil, Namdong-gu, Incheon, right across from Sangincheon Elementary School. It's open daily 10:00–22:00 and closed every Sunday.

Parking is available right in front of the store or in the nearby alley — we parked directly out front.

There was a menu board right at the entrance, which was nice because you could see everything at a glance before going in. Sundaeguk is love! We scanned it over once outside before heading in.

Café-like dining room and the side dish self-bar at Gukdam Sundaeguk

A sundaeguk restaurant this pretty?! Honestly, I was shocked at first — it's spotless and totally café-vibe for a sundaeguk place. Done up beautifully in wood and white tones, it made me think, 'wait, we're eating sundaeguk here?' That's Gukdam for you.

The owner sets the first round of side dishes on the table, and anything else you want, you grab from the self-serve bar inside. And even the self-bar was so clean and tidy!

Jjalsundae served over a solid-fuel warmer

First up, the jjal sundae (glutinous blood sausage) we ordered arrives! Sundae is something you almost never get outside of a bunsik (Korean street food) place, so getting a whole heaping plate of chewy-looking jjal sundae felt like a gift — amazing! And on top of that, they light a solid fuel warmer underneath to keep it hot, so it stays warm the whole time. Wow... so delicious.

A whole spread of side dishes that pair perfectly with sundaeguk showed up too, and that alone is a total rice thief. The dried radish was so tasty, and with kkakdugi (radish kimchi) and jeotgal (salted seafood) too, there was such a variety of food here — loved that.

We dipped the sundae into salt like this — wow, chewy and warm, you don't often get to eat sundae this way, and it was so good. Came for the sundaeguk, fell for the sundae!

Large sundaeguk for 12,000 won: the bowl alone is bigger

We ordered the large (teuk) sundaeguk, and the size of the ttukbaegi (stone bowl) alone is on another level. It comes with an enormous bowl packed with broth and packed with meat — the moment I saw it, I thought, how am I even going to finish this? And it's only ₩12,000! The portion alone is already extraordinary. Overflowing with generosity — if you're looking for a gukbap spot in Gansuk-dong, it's Gukdam Sundaeguk, no question! An incredible place!

Gukdam's sundaeguk comes out with clear broth like this, and one spoonful is enough to make you go 'wow.' Totally clear, clean, and light! Packed inside with meat, sundae, and even green onion — this place is a portion-lover's dream! A bowl of sundaeguk this good, and this generous, for ten thousand won — this place is the best!

The meat is so tender, and there's so much of it, plus so much sundae — the more you eat, the better it gets! The portion is so huge it genuinely never seemed to shrink no matter how much we ate, and we kept eating and eating until we were completely full and finally put our spoons down.

Stirring in dadagi for a spicy finish: two flavors in one bowl

After eating a good amount of the clear sundaeguk, we stirred in the dadagi (chili paste) that came with it to make it spicy, and that was delicious in its own charming way too! Turning red, it becomes spicy and hits that gut-warming spot — getting to enjoy two different flavors in one bowl made Gukdam Sundaeguk, the go-to gukbap spot in Gansuk-dong, even better!

Weekend lunch wait times and takeout at Gukdam Sundaeguk

We visited for a weekend lunch, and even then it was really busy — plenty of people kept coming in after us too. It was so good that we packed some to take home after eating, and honestly, if it were closer, I'd get takeout from here every single day. We ate so well.

The owner was so kind — the whole meal was just such a pleasant experience. Definitely a place to come back to often. Great portions, great taste — if you're in the mood for a hot bowl of sundaeguk now that the weather's turning chilly, come try it at Gukdam Sundaeguk in Gansuk-dong! Absolutely the best!
