Veteran General Fish Market is actually a chain — I visited the Incheon Guwol branch not long ago, and this time I made it to the City Hall branch!
This place has an outdoor-patio vibe with rooms tucked in the back, making it great for group gatherings, with a diverse menu and solid value for money.

Outdoor-patio atmosphere and the room-style seats

Here's a look at the outdoor and indoor space at this Incheon City Hall Station favorite and Guwol-dong bar spot. The interior itself is open-air, giving it an overall patio feel that's perfect for these cool autumn days! Inside, there are two room-style seating areas on either side, making it ideal for group gatherings and work dinners.

The menu and what we ordered that night

Here's the menu board at this Incheon City Hall Station favorite and Guwol-dong bar spot. Besides mixed sashimi and single-fish sashimi, there's sekkoshi (thin-sliced bone-in sashimi), sea squirt, whelk, sea cucumber and a really wide range of other seafood too. With the September fall lineup — gizzard shad sashimi, grilled gizzard shad, raw shrimp sashimi, grilled shrimp, roe stew, roe rice — plus lunch specials, the menu is genuinely huge, so I didn't manage to photograph every single item.
If you take part in the Naver receipt review event, you can choose one canned drink, two fried king shrimp, or sushi rice.

Side dishes and the self-serve kimchi pancake

Before the main dishes arrived, the basic side dishes came out. As sukiddashi (small starter dishes), we got a proper spread including hoemuchim (spicy mixed raw fish salad), seaweed soup, and grilled saury. You can also grab basic side dishes from the self-serve bar, and things that usually cost extra at other sashimi restaurants — like instant noodle add-ons and kimchi pancake — are available at the self-serve bar too. The kimchi pancake you make yourself!
Can I brag about my cute girlfriend today? She said she'd only eat a little of the kimchi pancake, so instead of making one big one, she pan-fried tiny ones one at a time like hotteok haha.
What comes in the manager's-pick premium mixed sashimi (small)?
And so the manager's-pick premium mixed sashimi (small) arrived. For under ₩40,000, the variety of fish in this mixed sashimi is quite impressive — from left to right in the photo: gizzard shad sekkoshi, red seabream, salmon, flounder, yellowtail, and rockfish. The quality of this lineup is no joke, right?
The sashimi looks unusually thin because you can actually choose the cut thickness when ordering, and I chose thin. Thickness is a matter of preference, but I like it thin — being able to choose the thickness is such a great option.
With such a wide variety of fish, including some higher-end species, everything was fresh and delicious, but the crunchy texture of the gizzard shad sekkoshi in particular was genuinely amazing.
Mini raw shrimp sashimi and grilled shrimp heads

I'd already had raw shrimp sashimi elsewhere before and was planning to save it for another visit since we'd already ordered the mixed sashimi, but my girlfriend is such a raw shrimp fiend that we ended up ordering the mini size anyway. Calling it 'mini' feels like an understatement — it came with 9 shrimp! The shrimp were plump and fresh with an incredible texture, so honestly, whatever else you order here, you really should get the raw shrimp sashimi as a side.

The raw shrimp sashimi comes with grilled shrimp heads on the side — they're tasty plain, but dipped in chili sauce or spicy chicken mayo sauce, they're even better. Grilled shrimp heads are truly the perfect drinking snack...
These days we drink Terra non-alcoholic beer (nicknamed 'Temu' haha). Part of it is that it's alcohol-free, but it also just tastes better than regular beer.
How generous is the seodeori spicy fish-bone stew?

Lastly, we ordered the fish-bone spicy stew along with a bowl of rice. Calling it just an ordinary spicy stew made from fish byproducts undersells how generous it is here. Fish heads, bone-in fish meat and more just keep coming endlessly. And the broth is so refreshingly spicy. This stew was a perfect match for soju.

Between the mixed sashimi, raw shrimp sashimi, spicy stew and rice, we were so full that we went to noraebang (karaoke room) with my girlfriend for the first time in a while and sang 10 songs. Today's standout track was a strangely maddening but addictive one — Jo Hyun-ah's 'Julge'.
Final verdict on Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch
Overall, with room seating available, this is a genuinely great spot for group gatherings or work dinners, and with the outdoor-patio feel plus fall-season menu items like shrimp and gizzard shad, I'd highly recommend visiting in this weather. The mixed sashimi, raw shrimp sashimi and fish-bone stew were all high quality, and combined with the great value for money, it's basically perfect... 100% would go back.
