The jjusamgyeop set: octopus, pork belly, rice cake and corn cheese

Rather than just octopus, we ordered the jjusamgyeop set so we could enjoy pork belly alongside it too. The set composition was really generous.

And here they add the combo that needs no explanation — savory corn cheese.

Octopus and pork belly cooking in spicy sauce

The octopus had a springy, chewy texture and the sauce was spicy in a way that really woke up the appetite. Adding pork belly to the mix softened the heat, making it a combo I kept going back to.

Earthenware egg custard and bean sprouts

Side dishes matter a lot when eating spicy food, and egg custard comes with the set. The hot pot egg custard had a truly soft, fluffy texture that paired really well with the spicy octopus. Taking a spoonful of egg custard between bites of octopus mellowed out the heat, letting me enjoy the octopus even more.

They also stir-fry in bean sprouts with a nice crunchy texture.

Perilla leaf wraps with pickled radish, flying fish roe and peanut sauce

The best way to eat it: put octopus and pork belly on a perilla leaf, add pickled radish and flying fish roe, drizzle on the savory peanut sauce, and wrap it all up in one bite — it was genuinely delicious. The fragrant perilla leaf, the tangy crunch of the pickled radish, and the popping texture of the flying fish roe all came together beautifully with the octopus.

Finishing with octopus hot-plate fried rice

After eating our fill of octopus and pork belly, we finished with the highlight — the fried rice. Fried rice is simply a must!

A completely cleaned hot plate

We cleaned our plates completely. By the time we were finishing up, the restaurant had filled up with customers at every table. I could see why this place is so popular. Return visit rating: 100%.

Even if you drive, parking is available with up to 2.5 hours free, so we could eat comfortably. I'd highly recommend Jju Baksa, a great restaurant near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station!
