I came to Dongmyo Station to try a kind of food I don't usually eat. I had no other plans today and it was a totally relaxed day, so I wanted to have some fun ><. So here's the Indian curry restaurant I ended up visiting.
Where is Namaste Dongmyo Branch? Right outside Dongmyo Station Exit 5
Namaste Dongmyo Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building right in front of Dongmyo Station Exit 5. It's right by the subway exit, so it's super convenient to get to!!
The signage in front of the building is clear so it's easy to find the store. Just seeing the menu photos made my mouth water, so I went straight up~ to the 2nd floor.
What are the interior and seating like at Namaste Dongmyo?
The inside of Namaste Dongmyo Branch was spacious and pleasant. There are more than 10 tables plus a group table. I went during lunch hour and there were quite a lot of people. It's a Dongmyo favorite curry restaurant, so of course a lot of people come 💕
The little decor pieces placed all around the restaurant totally make you feel like you're in India haha. The table settings, and the overall vibe of the place, make it a great restaurant for a date.
À la carte instead of a set: what we ordered at Namaste and the prices
Once you sit down, they give you a menu. The Indian Thali and Couple Set, which let you taste a variety of dishes, catch your eye first. Since the dishes we wanted weren't in the sets, we ordered à la carte.
A good mix of dishes came out together.

We each picked our own curry and ordered naan and rice to go with it. We ordered garlic naan, and the garlic smell was fragrant even before we started eating lol. For the chicken butter curry, we changed the meat to lamb :)
Half a tandoori chicken for 10,000 won, just right for two
Namaste Dongmyo Branch's tandoori chicken comes with two large pieces if you order the half portion. It's properly seasoned and looks really appetizing.
Each piece is about the size of a palm, so it's decent value. If two people go, the half portion seems just right. The taste is exactly the tandoori chicken you'd picture in your head 🔥 the meat is soft and properly seasoned, great to eat with rice ><
The naan was much bigger than I expected. We ordered one naan and 3 pieces came out.
Next up, time to try the curry we were most looking forward to!
How the chicken butter curry tastes with lamb instead
First, the chicken butter curry made with lamb instead. There was no spiciness at all, and the soft, mellow butter flavor stood out. It went really well with naan, even more than with rice ><
This is actually really good
That's the thought that just comes to you. There was plenty of lamb and it was great, but if you don't like the smell of lamb, chicken might be the better choice.
How spicy is the chicken vindaloo at Namaste Dongmyo?
The chicken vindaloo is a spicy curry, packed with potato and chicken inside. It was spicier than I expected. Not Buldak-level, but the kind of spiciness that suits Korean tastebuds perfectly. It's a familiar flavor, so if it's your first time with Indian curry, I really recommend it 👍 The potatoes inside are a total delicacy too haha.
As we ate, we ran out of naan so we ordered an extra butter naan. I can't believe I lived not knowing naan could taste this good ㅜㅜ lol. The buttery aroma wafted through and paired really well with the chicken vindaloo.
Ending with gulab jamun, an Indian syrup-soaked dessert
After completely scraping our plates clean, we finished with the Indian dessert gulab jamun to cleanse the palate. It was my first time trying it in my life, so it was really fascinating haha. It's a milk-based fried dough soaked in syrup, and it looked cold to the eye but I was surprised to find it warm when I actually ate it 😆 It's not a dessert you see often, so I think it's worth trying while you're here.
Verdict: real Indian curry in Dongmyo, Seoul
Even if it's your first time eating Indian curry, you can enjoy it deliciously with absolutely no hesitation. Even without comparing it to other curries, you immediately think 'this is genuinely delicious!' lol. I really hope you'll try proper Indian curry at Namaste Dongmyo Branch, a Blue Ribbon favorite in Dongmyo ><
