Filling low-sugar fruit mochi in Gyeongju's Hwangnidang-gil: Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is a fruit mochi dessert shop on the main lane of Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, directly across from Ichinisando. Two friends each picked one of the mochi marked low-sugar — peach yogurt and mango yogurt — and both were so big and so generously filled with fruit that a single one was filling. For a dessert to carry in one hand while walking Hwangnidang-gil, Tareudang's fruit mochi is an easy recommendation.

My friend and I were in Gyeongju and wandering around Hwangnidang-gil, so I stopped by Tareudang (타르당) again — I'd tried it before and loved it! Yogurt fruit mochi has been all over Instagram lately, and I was curious, so I was so happy to find this kind of quality even in Gyeongju ✨

As you're walking the main street of Hwangnidang-gil, this place grabs your eye right away! Plus it's right across from the famous Ichinisando, so it's perfect to hit both at once. It's ideal for a quick takeout stop when your energy dips after shopping and sightseeing around the area. Really the perfect Hwangnidang-gil dessert shop for something you can carry and eat on the go 💡

Area inside Tareudang where tarts are usually displayed

I noticed a spot in the shop where they apparently usually display their famous tarts, but they weren't out when I visited so I didn't get to see them. The photos I've seen look so pretty that I definitely want to try the tarts next time haha

Full lineup including gold kiwi and chocolate mochi

Looking inside the showcase, there was a whole lineup of fruit mochi with names that already sounded amazing! Peach yogurt, fig yogurt, pineapple, mango yogurt, gold kiwi, chocolate and more — plenty of variety to pick by taste, great for buying a few to share.

After some deliberation, we each picked the combo we wanted to try most haha: peach yogurt mochi and mango yogurt mochi. Both had a low-sugar label too — looked like they used low-sugar yogurt cream. Honestly perfect for me since I'm dieting ...!!

Two hefty-sized fruit mochi

The moment we got our mochi, what surprised us first was the size — they were pretty heavy too haha 💥 In person they were way bigger than they looked in photos. Such a huge size that one alone was filling!

Peach yogurt mochi: firm peach slices, gently sweet

The peach yogurt mochi I was most looking forward to! The texture was the firm peach (ttakbok) type, but it was ripened just right so it wasn't too hard, with a gentle sweetness 🍑

The crisp, sweet peach paired beautifully with the tangy, soft yogurt cream — it was the best! If you're someone who loves peaches, you'll definitely love this one haha

Mango yogurt mochi with a large piece of mango inside

Mango yogurt mochi: soft, like biting into fresh mango

This one's my friend's pick, the mango yogurt mochi! Not 100% sure, but tasting it, it felt like fresh mango rather than frozen — soft and sweet 🥭 The mango pieces were nice and big too, and the sweet mango, tangy yogurt cream, and chewy mochi skin all came together perfectly ><. Not just sickly sweet but clean-tasting — I'd highly recommend this as part of a Hwangnidang-gil café dessert lineup!

Is Tareudang worth a second visit?

I'd been here before and came in with expectations, and it felt even more delicious than last time, which I loved! The chewy mochi skin itself was delicious, and the yogurt cream inside wasn't greasy at all — a perfect match with the fruit 🥺❤️ The fruit portions were generously sized too, so it felt worth every won.

It's a great snack to grab while exploring Hwangnidang-gil, and a perfect little mood-lifter. If you're looking for good fruit mochi in Gyeongju, or a Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot you can carry around, definitely stop by Tareudang! I'm already planning to visit again on my next trip to Gyeongju 💕
