Gwangju Chinese restaurant for kids and grandparents: Mayway
In short
Mayway is a Chinese restaurant in Gwangsan, Gwangju, across from Cheomdan Gyeojassi Church. A visit with a 4-year-old and parents-in-law covered tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) half portion, a solo set meal, ganjjajang, jjamppong, and seafood scorched-rice soup, with thin-battered tangsuyuk the kid loved, a self-serve banchan bar, unlimited rice, and a baby chair on hand. A solid pick for a Cheomdan family meal with young children.

Where to park?
There's no dedicated lot, but you can park along the street. It's across from Cheomdan Gyeojassi Church, and I found spots on the street or in the alley. (I actually parked at Lotte Mart first, then moved the car over here.)
Inside Mayway
The interior was clean and tidy, which I liked.

High ceilings and a bright feel made it a good spot for bringing guests too. The atmosphere kept the mood good all through the meal.
Self-serve bar

A clean self-serve bar

You can help yourself to banchan (side dishes) like scallion kimchi, and rice is unlimited, which was great for mixing the last bit of jjajang sauce into a bowl!

They brought out sweet potato fritters as soon as we sat down, and they were delicious. I cut them up with scissors to share with my kid, who happily ate them. Mayway really is a good Cheomdan spot to bring kids to.
What we ate at Mayway

Tangsuyuk (half) — ₩18,900
Right up my alley ✅️ Tangsuyuk half, ₩18,900 ✔️chunky meat ✔️thin batter ✔️nutty flavor ✔️plus a generous salad with a tangy dressing
My 4-year-old ate it up so well. This kind of tangsuyuk is good even cold, so next time I'll try ordering it for delivery too.

Highly recommend the tangsuyuk at Mayway, a Cheomdan favorite 👍 (even the half portion is generous.)

Solo set meal — ₩11,900
✅️ Solo set meal with jjajang, jjamppong, and fried dumplings, ₩11,900. Great value, and you get to try three dishes. ✔️Good for anyone who has trouble choosing ✔️Good for anyone who wants variety

Ganjjajang — ₩9,900
✅️ Ganjjajang, ₩9,900. Rich savory flavor, and the ingredients tasted fresh.

Jjamppong — ₩10,900
✅️ Jjamppong, ₩10,900. This one has real wok-fire flavor. They say instead of artificial additives, they crank up the heat to get that smoky char.

Seafood scorched-rice soup — ₩15,900
✅️ Seafood scorched-rice soup, ₩15,900. A healthy, satisfying dish. I ordered it to share with my kid and was glad it was loaded with seafood.
I loved the sizzling sound when they poured it in, and it stayed piping hot all the way through. The crispy scorched rice and rich seafood broth made for a filling meal.
(The seafood I gave up to my kid.)
Dessert
They brought out ice cream for dessert, one per person. The ice cream wasn't rock-hard and melted smoothly, a nice way to end the meal.

Coffee is also available for dessert!
