I was in Gwangju recently, genuinely agonizing over what to have for lunch, when I ended up at Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu Cheomdan, a well-known pork cutlet spot in the Cheomdan area. Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu has so many branches around Gwangju that it's basically a household name — I've been to a few other locations, and every single one has been clean and generous with portions, so it's a safe pick whenever I can't decide what to eat. This time too, I was hunting for a good pork cutlet in Cheomdan and spotted the familiar Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu sign, so in I went!

The vibe and parking situation

Walking in, the interior was really clean. Tables were spaced generously and the whole place felt bright and comfortable, which made it a fine spot for a family meal too. I noticed the same thing at other Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu branches — the stores seem to be well managed across the board!

There wasn't a big dedicated parking lot, but plenty of cars were parked along the surrounding streets, so I circled around a bit and found a spot myself. It'll probably vary depending on when you visit, but expect to scout the area a little for parking.

What we ordered and the self-serve bar

We ordered the Jinsim Wang Double Pork Cutlet (₩16,900) and Jinsim Wang Jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles, ₩9,500) that day. You all know pork cutlet and jjolmyeon is a solid combo, right?!

The self-serve bar on one side of the store had lettuce for wraps, pickled radish, and kimchi, plus kids' tableware and takeout containers. Dipping the cutlet in sauce, pairing it with jjolmyeon, wrapping it in lettuce — even with one main dish, we got to enjoy it in quite a few different ways. And since the cutlet is so huge, if you can't finish it, just grab a container from the self-serve bar and pack it up yourself.

The batter, the meat, and the sauce

Cutting into the cutlet, the breading was crispy and the meat inside was quite thick. True to gyeongyangsik (Western-style Korean diner) tradition, the sauce is poured generously over the top, and the crunch of the fried coating stays alive underneath, with that rich, familiar gyeongyangsik sauce flavor that pairs so well with pork cutlet.

The meat wasn't dry at all — it was on the tender side, so cutting off big pieces and eating them didn't feel heavy at all!!! The jjolmyeon that paired so well with the cutlet also came in a generous portion. Cabbage, cucumber, carrot, and bean sprouts were piled on top, with spicy seasoning and a boiled egg in the middle — it looked delicious just from the visual! Mixing it up, there really were a ton of vegetables in there.

The noodles were springy and chewy, the vegetables were crisp, and the sauce wasn't just spicy — it had a sweet-and-sour balance that kept my chopsticks going back for more! This jjolmyeon in particular went really well with the cutlet.

Eating the crispy, savory cutlet followed by the tangy, spicy jjolmyeon cut through the richness and really woke up my appetite! If you're visiting with a group, I'd recommend ordering a jjolmyeon to share alongside the wang donkkaseu rather than just getting the cutlet alone.
