Suyu, Seoul katsu restaurant with mini cold soba set: Katsu Shokudou
In short
Katsu Shokudou Suyu is a tonkatsu restaurant in Gangbuk, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Suyu Station Exit 5 on the first floor of Episode Suyu 838. Because Katsu Shokudou Suyu has no break time, the writer came alone for a late lunch of the mixed katsu set — pork loin katsu, jumbo shrimp katsu and mini cold soba — switching flavors with yuzu wasabi and Himalayan salt. With a window bar table and tablet ordering at every seat, Katsu Shokudou Suyu is an easy pick for a solo lunch in Suyu.

I had some errands to run in Suyu today, and since I was eating alone for a late lunch, I stopped by Katsu Shokudou near Suyu Station. With no break time, it was easy to drop in solo even at an off-hour lunch, and this place uses a patented low-temperature yuzu aging process that makes the pork extra tender with a subtle fragrance.

We ordered the mixed katsu set, which comes with pork loin katsu, jumbo shrimp katsu, and mini cold soba — the batter was crispy yet light, and I finished every last bit.

Besides dipping it in the basic sauce, I also tried adding yuzu wasabi or a pinch of Himalayan salt, which let me enjoy a range of flavors.

The mini cold soba (buckwheat noodles) that came alongside was cool and clean-tasting, and it paired really well with the katsu — nice to alternate bites between the two. From the crispy, light tonkatsu to the refreshing cold soba, it all came together nicely, making Katsu Shokudou a satisfying solo lunch spot in Suyu.
Where is Katsu Shokudou Suyu, and is there parking?

Katsu Shokudou is on the first floor of Episode Suyu 838, about a 3-minute walk from Suyu Station Exit 5, making it easy to reach by public transit. Episode Suyu 838 houses several restaurants, but there's a good directory board and banners posted around, so it wasn't hard to find.

The storefront had a cute phrase written on it — something like 'Safe pork loin, and sincerity' — which gave off proper tonkatsu-restaurant vibes.
If you're driving, you can use the underground parking at Episode Suyu 838, and there's 1 hour of free parking, so it's easy to get moving after your meal.
Window bar seats for solo diners at Katsu Shokudou Suyu

There's a long bar table running along the window, so eating solo felt comfortable. The place isn't huge overall, but the wood-tone tables and warm lighting together created a cozy, relaxed mood.

There are also regular tables, and each seat has a tablet installed, so checking the menu and ordering was convenient.
Himalayan salt and shichimi pepper set out on every table

Each table drawer had utensils along with Himalayan salt and shichimi pepper, so I could grab whatever seasoning I wanted right away — very convenient.

When I ordered a Coke, they brought it out with a glass of ice so I could keep it cold — felt like they'd thought of every little detail.
What comes in the mixed katsu set: pork loin and jumbo shrimp katsu

What I ordered was the mixed katsu set, made up of mixed katsu and mini cold soba, and true to a proper set meal, everything arrived neatly arranged on a tray all at once.

The mixed katsu consisted of a thick pork loin cutlet and jumbo shrimp katsu — black tiger shrimp prepared in-house and fried whole, head to tail.

The thick pork loin in particular goes through a patented low-temperature yuzu aging process, giving it a tender texture and a subtle fragrance. Paired with the crispy jumbo shrimp katsu, one dish let me enjoy two totally different textures and flavors.
How to eat it: yuzu wasabi, Himalayan salt and tartar sauce

The cabbage served alongside worked well piled on top of the tonkatsu, and depending on your taste, just a light dip in Himalayan salt for a plain, clean flavor was also delicious.

For me, the tastiest combination was adding a touch of the yuzu wasabi they provide here — the subtle yuzu aroma and the sharp kick went really well together.

The moment I bit into the jumbo shrimp katsu, I could feel the plump, fully packed shrimp meat, and with tartar sauce it turned refreshing and paired beautifully with the shrimp flavor.
The mini cold soba that comes with the set

The mini cold soba came topped with grated radish, finely chopped scallions, and wasabi — mixing it all together to taste added a clean, sharp flavor.

The noodles were a bit thicker than typical buckwheat noodles, with a nice chewy bite, and with the cool broth I emptied the whole bowl in no time.
