Janghanpyeong Korean BBQ with unlimited doenjang jjigae: Ilbeonji

In short

Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch is a beef grill restaurant in Jangan-dong, near Janghanpyeong Station in Dongdaemun, Seoul. A married couple shared the 900g jageun-so-hanmari (small one-cow set), which brings sirloin, chuck flap, hanging tender, short rib finger meat, flat iron and thin-sliced beef belly, then finished with the unlimited-refill doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) turned into chadol doenjang jjigae with brisket, plus the owner's tip on eating pajeori (scallion salad). Despite the word "small" in the name, the jageun-so-hanmari filled up two people.

My husband and I were craving meat, so we happily headed to Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch for a hearty dinner. We picked the jageun-so-hanmari (small one-cow set) for two, and turns out 'small' was only in the name lol. Here's my review of this Janghanpyeong Station spot with generous portions, from the meat all the way down to the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew).

Where is Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch, and when is it open?

Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Jangan-dong, close to Janghanpyeong Station. It stays open on weekends and holidays with no break time in between.

The building itself was big and easy to spot, and since valet parking is available, it was a convenient Janghanpyeong Station restaurant to meet up at even if you're driving.

Inside Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang: a big, lively room and a self-serve corner

It looked big from outside, but once inside there were even more seats than expected. Lots of other diners were eating too, giving it that classic Jangan-dong Korean BBQ vibe perfect for company dinners or family gatherings.

On one side, staff were prepping the meat, and the self-serve corner had vegetables and side dishes neatly laid out.

A sign caught my eye saying they use fresh vegetables bought at the early-morning market auction every day. It was nice being able to grab whatever we needed without worrying about it — made the whole meal at this Janghanpyeong Station restaurant that much easier.

What comes in the jageun-so-hanmari set? Six cuts of beef

There were two of us, so we ordered the jageun-so-hanmari. It comes with sirloin, chuck flap, hanging tender, short rib finger meat, flat iron, and beef brisket, all together — and the meat came out on two plates so full that we both paused for a second at the sheer amount haha.

Is 900g of jageun-so-hanmari enough for two people?

I don't think you should take the word 'small' too lightly. At 900g, it was seriously a huge amount for two people at this Jangan-dong Korean BBQ spot!

A full table spread with side dishes, sauces, and doenjang jjigae

With the side dishes, sauces, and doenjang jjigae all set out, the table was completely full — a proper spread. Being able to try a bit of everything made it a great Janghanpyeong Station restaurant for when you don't want to agonize over the menu.

There are several other BBQ places nearby, but we wanted somewhere close to the station, easy to park at, and offering a variety of cuts.

With its spacious seating and self-serve corner, Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch felt comfortable for just the two of us, but it also seemed well suited for larger groups looking for a Jangan-dong Korean BBQ spot.

We grilled everything a bit at a time, from thin beef brisket to the thicker cuts. Since each cut had a different shape and thickness, it was fun switching between them.

At 900g, the jageun-so-hanmari should feel even more worthwhile if portion size is your top priority.

How the owner told us to eat the pajeori (scallion salad)

The owner came right up to our table to show us the best way to eat the pajeori (seasoned green onion salad). Once we mixed it as instructed and paired it with the meat, our chopsticks got even busier lol. That kind of small, thoughtful touch is what made this Jangan-dong Korean BBQ spot memorable.

Unlimited doenjang jjigae, upgraded with brisket into chadol doenjang jjigae

And here's the thing — the doenjang jjigae at Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch is unlimited! While grilling, we tossed in a bit of chadol (thin-sliced beef brisket), and just like that, a regular stew transformed into chadol-doenjang jjigae@!@

Unlimited chadol-doenjang jjigae simmering with added beef brisket

Simmered bubbling hot and eaten with rice, it made for a hugely satisfying finish. With generous meat portions plus refillable stew, this Janghanpyeong Station restaurant definitely delivers on quantity. Between the constant doenjang jjigae refills and the tip on eating pajeori, this place stuck with me longer than I expected.
