I'd been searching around for somewhere to take my family out for a meal after a while, and I ended up at Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch, which had a lot of reviews raving about the meat. It's often mentioned as a Janghanpyeong beef restaurant too, so I figured it'd be a solid pick for a family outing — and it was satisfying from the very first visit.

When you're eating with family, taste matters, but so do things like parking, the size of the place, and how much space is between tables — you end up checking all of that too. This Janghanpyeong Station favorite, Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch, delivered on that front as well.

How close is Ilbeonji to Janghanpyeong Station?

Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch is about a 2-minute walk from Exit 3 of Janghanpyeong Station. It's genuinely close to the station, so it's great for visiting by public transit, and if you're driving there's less to worry about with parking.

Restaurants near stations often have cramped parking or none at all, but this place has a fairly spacious lot and even offers free valet parking, which made it feel convenient to visit with family. With good access by both transit and car, it seemed like a fine spot for group gatherings too.

Inside Ilbeonji: a wide, clean dining room

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch was how much bigger the interior was than I expected. There were plenty of tables and everything was kept clean overall, so at first I thought it was a Korean BBQ restaurant that had just opened.

But when I asked, it turned out the place has actually been open for about 10 years, and they remodel every 3 years. Korean BBQ restaurants tend to get oily from the grilling, and the longer they run, the more the floors and tables can start feeling greasy. Here, there was none of that — everything felt clean overall, which impressed me even more.

For four adults, the 1.2kg big one-cow set

There were 4 of us adults, so we ordered the big beef set at 1.2kg. Apparently the big beef set is normally 600g for 4 people, and this menu adds another 600g on top, for 1.2kg total.

They said the small beef set works the same way — 450g plus another 450g, for 900g total. If you're looking for a generous portion when eating meat with a group, that's a pretty good setup, right? 😊

What's at Ilbeonji's self-bar

Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch also has a self-bar, so we could easily grab more vegetables and basic side dishes whenever we ran low. Self-bars that get used constantly can sometimes look worn down, but this one felt like it was being tended to regularly, which I liked.

Sesame oil and baking cups placed at the self-bar

There was sesame oil and baking cups set up for grilling garlic, so we grilled some garlic to a nice golden brown along with the meat. Eating meat without garlic always feels a little lacking, so it was nice to have that setup ready to go.

Free doenjang jjigae refills and the usamgyeop tip

Ordering meat comes with a free doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) that simmers right in the middle of the grill. On top of that, it's free and unlimited. The staff kept an eye on the table and topped up the broth and vegetables on their own without us needing to ask repeatedly, which made it easy to enjoy.

Unlimited doenjang jjigae simmering in the middle of the grill

Doenjang jjigae simmered for a long time can reduce and turn salty, but since they kept refilling the broth, it stayed easy to eat right to the end.

The manager also shared a tip for eating it even better — adding a few pieces of usamgyeop (thin-sliced beef brisket) to the doenjang jjigae turns it into something like a usamgyeop doenjang jjigae. And if you like a spicier kick, they recommended finely chopping in some cheongyang chili peppers.

How good is the beef at Ilbeonji?

Looking at the plate that came out, the portion was genuinely huge.

Generous assortment of raw beef cuts

With several cuts coming out at once, there was fun in picking and choosing. The meat looked fresh overall, and grilling it up, it was tender with no gamey smell.

Even with raw meat, if it's not stored or handled well you can sometimes catch an off smell — but there was none of that unpleasant taste here.

The best way to eat the pajeori scallion salad

The manager told us to add a little sesame oil from the self-bar into the pajeori (scallion salad), then use scissors to cut it up finely while mixing — it makes it even more savory.

Trying it that way, the sesame oil aroma really came through and definitely brought out the savory flavor more.

Adding galbisal, then bibim naengmyeon to finish

We were really going at the meat, and by the end we'd finished it all. Still, it felt like a waste to have the bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) plain, so we ordered an extra portion of ribeye.

A grilled piece of meat placed on top of the bibim naengmyeon

There's no giving up the combo of meat plus a piece on top of bibim naengmyeon after a BBQ meal. Even fairly full already, it was funny how there was still room for the naengmyeon-and-meat combo. One of us said if we'd had a bit more room, they would have wanted to try the doenjang jjigae as doenjang sulbap — mixed with a bowl of rice.

Looking for a Korean BBQ spot in Jangan-dong?

Four of us ate until we were really full, and the bill came out lower than expected, which boosted how good the value felt. If you want to eat plenty of meat with family or you're gathering with a group, this seems like a solid option.

So if you're looking for a Jangan-dong beef butcher restaurant or a Jangan-dong Korean BBQ place, this seems worth a visit.

Service that lasts until the bill

After the meal, at checkout, I noticed they had Febreze on hand for guests and a free cup of vending machine coffee available too.

With toothpicks and palate-cleansing candy ready too, it felt like they'd thought of everything right up until you walk out the door. If you're eating out with parents or having a big family gathering with mostly older guests, wouldn't these little touches go a long way?

Is Ilbeonji good for a family dinner?

It's close to Exit 3 of Janghanpyeong Station, so it's easy to get to, parking is convenient, and the place is spacious and clean. The meat portions are generous with a good variety of cuts, so it's a nice pick for family meals or group gatherings. Basics like the doenjang jjigae and self-bar were well handled, and the staff were friendly, so there was no discomfort throughout the meal.

Thanks to the manager's tips on usamgyeop doenjang jjigae and pajeori, the meal was even more fun. If you're searching for a Janghanpyeong Station favorite and want a Korean BBQ restaurant that's comfortable for family, I'd recommend Ilbeonji Jeongyuk Sikdang Janghanpyeong Branch. This was my first visit and I was so satisfied I'm planning to make it a regular spot~😆
