Goyang braised fish set for two in Siksa-dong: Hwadegeuro Gan
In short
Hwadegeuro Gan Godeungeo Siksa Branch is a grilled and braised fish restaurant on Wisiti1-ro in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang. The 45,000-won hearty set for two brings grilled mackerel, flounder and eel, braised mackerel with radish, seaweed soup and pot rice, and the self-bar adds bibimbap, tteokbokki and japchae (glass noodles with vegetables). Hi, I'm Sumin :) Lately I've been drawn to places where even a single meal comes with a generous spread of dishes.
So this time I went to Hwadegeuro Gan Godeungeo Siksa Branch, a spot in Siksa-dong known for both grilled and braised fish.

Cutting to the chase — the combination here was seriously no joke...!! Just look at the visuals. If you don't feel like reading a long post, just go visit (haha).

Free parking for 2 hours made it easy to drive here. Parking matters quite a bit when hunting for a restaurant around Siksa-dong, so I appreciated that.

What's the vibe inside?
The dining room at Hwadegeuro Gan Godeungeo Siksa Branch was bigger and cleaner than I expected. I saw a lot of families eating together, and it was also a great fit for two people wanting a hearty meal like us. The staff were really kind too — food aside, their service made the whole meal feel good :)

What's in the ₩45,000 two-person set
We ordered the two-person set for 45,000 won, and the lineup was no joke. Seaweed soup, mackerel, flounder, eel, and braised fish all landed on the table at once — plenty for two. If you love fish, this kind of spread is exactly what you want!

Grilled mackerel
We started with the mackerel, and it was exactly the kind of thing you want to eat with rice. Flake the flesh off, pile it on rice, and a whole bowl just disappears...
With grilled fish, you don't really need a ton of side dishes — it's best eaten simply with warm rice.

Grilled flounder
Oh, and flounder came along too. It had a totally different feel from the mackerel, so alternating between the two kept things from getting repetitive. I really liked this kind of set-up better than one big portion of a single dish — a little of several things instead.

Pot rice
It's not an exaggeration to call this the real star of the day — the pot rice. Every grain glistened, with a nice bite too, sweet enough that I thought, oh, so this is what people mean by 'good rice alone tastes amazing' haha.

Braised mackerel with radish
Personally, this braise was so good. The sauce paired perfectly with rice — flake off some fish, top it with the braising sauce, and it's genuinely delicious... stuff like this just makes you keep eating rice ㅠㅠ haha.
It arrived still bubbling... with mackerel and radish both braised down nicely, and honestly this dish alone could finish off a whole bowl of rice.

Pro tip for the pot rice: save some grilled mackerel. Tear it up over the crispy rice at the bottom of the pot, dip it in a little salt, and please eat it that way. I'm not exaggerating — I couldn't eat dinner that night because I ate way too much at lunch haha.

Seaweed soup
Seaweed soup came alongside too, nice for sipping a spoonful between bites. After the fish and the braise, a warm spoonful of seaweed soup cleanses the palate!

What's at the self-bar
And this was the part that surprised me the most — the self-bar. There's a solid variety of banchan (side dishes), plus everything you need to make your own bibimbap. Load your rice up with different toppings and mix it in — it's genuinely filling. Bite of fish, spoonful of bibimbap, back to the braise... and before you know it your stomach's full.

But the real twist was the tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes). There's tteokbokki at the self-bar and it was seriously good — we kept telling each other how good it was.

The japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) was great too — I went back for seconds. We came here for fish and ended up going hard on japchae and tteokbokki... not sure what we actually came to eat anymore, but hey, if it's good, it's good haha.

Final thoughts
Between the banchan, the make-your-own bibimbap, and the tteokbokki, there's real fun in exploring the self-bar. Especially on days when you want a really hearty meal, this kind of set-up works great.
Overall, for 45,000 won we got mackerel, flounder, eel, braised fish, and seaweed soup, and we left pretty satisfied. Because there were so many different kinds of food, even eating as two people it never felt like we were stuck on just one dish. The staff were super kind too, which made the meal even more pleasant haha.
If you're looking for a spot for a family meal in Siksa-dong, or a place to properly eat grilled fish, Hwadegeuro Gan Godeungeo Siksa Branch seems like a solid choice. Fish lovers especially will like the two-person set. We genuinely enjoyed it and would love to come back next time we're eating around Siksa-dong. If you want to eat your fill of grilled fish, braised fish, bibimbap, and tteokbokki all at once, I recommend it :)
