Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You: a hangover meal 5 minutes from Gangneung Station

Let me introduce a Gangneung hangover-food spot about a 5-minute walk from Gangneung Station — "Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You"~

Does everyone go for hangover soup or a hearty bowl of gukbap (Korean soup with rice) before heading home?? I drank a LOT the night before, so a hangover soup was absolutely mandatory, haha

Is there parking at Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You?

At "Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You," you just move the traffic cones placed in front of the restaurant and park there!! It was really convenient to visit by car — we had a car and were specifically looking for a restaurant with parking~

Solo-dining tables and the cosy interior

The exterior felt kind of stiff and simple, but the interior had a cute, cozy vibe... There's also a separate table for solo diners, so if you're looking for a gukbap restaurant in Gangneung to eat alone at, I recommend this place 🙌

They also had postcards, nice for keeping as a souvenir, and were selling mini Gangneung soju bottles, sticky notes, and other items that looked good for gifts :)

The menu: spice levels and Chodang sundubu mala gukbap

[Menu board] The menu was way more varied than I expected, so it looked easy for everyone to pick something to their taste. The spicy hangover gukbap even lets you choose your spice level — Shin Ramyun level, Buldak level, and more!!

"Chodang sundubu mala gukbap"...?? A menu item I was SO curious about — kind of like a Korean take on mala tang, maybe...? Since it was my first meal on an empty stomach, I didn't order it this time, but next time I'm definitely trying this one, hehe

They even kindly posted instructions on how to enjoy the gukbap and gomtang (bone broth soup) properly... They're running a review event where you get a free "golden-egg tteokgalbi steak," so make sure to join in~~ We ordered donkatsu separately so we didn't end up participating, sigh.

[Basic side dishes] For basic side dishes we got three kinds: diced radish kimchi, kimchi, and onion-chive salad!

What we ordered at Pick Up To You

• Sogol sundubu (bone-broth soft tofu soup)
• Chodang sundubu spicy hangover gukbap
• Donkatsu

Sogol sundubu: a clear bone broth that needs no soy sauce

[Sogol sundubu] Since I prefer a clear broth for my hangover soup, I went straight for the sogol sundubu~ You can't come to Gangneung and not eat sundubu (soft tofu soup), that would just be a shame, haha

They gave a separate soy sauce to add into the sogol sundubu, but thanks to the clean, deep flavor of the bone broth I didn't even need to season it separately and ate it up happily... There was also SO much tofu in it that I barely touched the rice I'd ordered on the side, sigh. The tofu wasn't mashed to bits either — it held together in nice chunks, so fishing out the savory pieces of tofu was its own little pleasure~

Chodang sundubu spicy hangover gukbap: hot even at Shin Ramyun level

[Chodang sundubu spicy hangover gukbap] If there's a clear-broth camp for curing hangovers, my friend is firmly in the spicy-broth camp, haha. I stole a bite and it was that sharp, tingly kick that totally clears out your insides — proper hangover-cure flavor. Even set to Shin Ramyun spice level, it was noticeably spicy.

There are add-on options for extra meat and extra sundae (Korean blood sausage), and my friend went all in on both — look how loaded her gukbap is??? And the sundae wasn't just the glass-noodle kind — it had blood sausage with the actual blood filling too!!!

Doesn't this look exactly like what a proper Gangneung gukbap restaurant should serve~?? The broth was thick and deep, the kind that fills up an empty stomach completely, haha

Donkatsu: fried to order, crisp outside and juicy inside

[Donkatsu] I'd already eaten myself to bursting the night before, but I couldn't resist the side-dish donkatsu,, sigh. Koreans take their side dishes seriously, you know~

It came out freshly fried, so it was piping hot, and the coating was super crisp~! No pork smell at all, and the inside was juicy and tender... A bowl of gukbap alone can feel like it's missing something, so I definitely recommend ordering the donkatsu as a side too :)

The restroom is outside — you unlock the gate with a key to get to it — and being a private restroom, it was really clean :)

Verdict: full by noon on a Sunday, with plenty of travellers and suitcases

Being just a 5-minute walk from Gangneung Station seems to be the biggest advantage. There were a lot of guests visiting with rolling suitcases. We came around noon on a Sunday, and the seats filled up more and more until the whole place was packed..! A great spot to visit when you just want a simple, satisfying bowl of gukbap.

The name "Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You" is kind of goofy, but the taste is anything but goofy lol. Confirmed: a Gangneung hangover-food restaurant worth the trip
