Today I want to introduce a Gangneung must-try handmade burger spot, Moana Burger. Famous as one of Gangneung's best burger restaurants, Moana Burger is also close to Gangmun Beach. The sign alone gives off a super hip vibe.

This Gangneung must-try handmade burger place isn't just a hip sign — the interior is super clean too, hip enough to feel like some overseas burger joint! With a surfboard and standing tables in one corner, it really nails a beachy vibe as a Gangneung spot. Honestly the sleepy dog you can see there is also so cute haha (and this is just our guess, but the female owner has total Moana-esque charm the moment you see her, so we wondered if that's actually where the name Moana came from — she's genuinely so cool...)

Here's the menu at this Gangneung must-try handmade burger spot, Moana Burger. There are three burgers — the signature Moana, Hawaiian, and Double — and the listed menu prices come with fries; if you want just the burger alone, it's ₩2,000 cheaper! Drinks need to be ordered separately, and if you order a beer you get ₩2,000 off haha. Honestly I'm not a fries person so I considered getting just the burger plus a drink, but I heard this place is known for great fries, so I ended up ordering the set plus a drink!!

Drinks were self-serve after ordering, and they gave us a separate cup of ice!

Exactly what a sauce addict like me needs — easy access to add more sauce. No need to ask staff for a bit more ketchup, you can just help yourself as much as you want, and there's Tabasco too if that's your thing. Forks and knives are self-serve!!

Moana Burger vs Double Moana Burger: how do they taste different?

First up is the Moana burger. I didn't order this one myself, but I took a bite — the thick patty, cheese, well-matched sauce, and all the vegetables came together so well, it was so tasty!! When you order a burger they also give you that flower — such a thoughtful touch. We all clipped them onto our bags, and it really made us feel like we were on a trip — so cute haha.

Next is the Double Moana burger I ordered! Can you see the two patties with two slices of cheese properly melted in there? Honestly this Gangneung must-try handmade double burger doesn't come with sauce, but I'd heard it was delicious so as a sauce addict I was a little worried — but wow, it's amazing. You don't need sauce at all, the juicy patty flavor is incredible. Plus the pickles cut through any greasiness perfectly, so good.

Can you see how packed the cross-section is with patty? It's so surprising that it has this much flavor without any sauce.

Why the fries are worth ordering as a set

You guys, turns out I actually like fries.. these are so good haha. Truly a flavor the owner can confidently recommend! They're fluffy without being overly salty, just nicely salted, they go so well with the burger, and I bet they'd be perfect with beer too!!! Everyone, get the set.

Plastic gloves at Moana Burger: how to eat the burger cleanly

And you know how the biggest worry going to a handmade burger place is that it's messy to eat? Well, this place has a genuinely thoughtful touch. They hand you plastic gloves and tell you to press the burger down firmly and hold it that way. I pressed the burger down, cut it into manageable pieces, and held it with my hands — and it was the cleanest I've ever eaten a handmade burger, haha.
