In short

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu & Sundubu Kalguksu Main Branch is a makguksu (cold buckwheat noodle) and sundubu kalguksu restaurant right in front of Gangmun Beach in Gangneung, with second-floor tables that look straight out over the water. Arriving at 5:10pm, just after the 15:30–17:00 break time ended, the second-floor ocean-view seats at Gossi's were already full, and the order — fermented pollock bibim makguksu, buckwheat cheese pork cutlet roll and flying fish roe buckwheat gimbap — came to 33,500 won. When you're hunting for good food in Gangneung, parking can weirdly end up being the biggest headache. Around Gangmun Beach or Anmok Beach especially, parking is genuinely rough — but this time I went to Gossi's Donghae Makguksu, right in front of Gangmun Beach, with easy access to a public parking lot too. And best of all, the second floor lets you eat while looking straight out at Gangmun Beach!

Is 5:10pm too late for the second-floor ocean-view seats?

The Gangmun Beach-view seats on the 2nd floor of Gossi's were already fully booked by 5:10pm. I arrived right when break time ended, and I still missed a good table by ten minutes.

The fully booked 2nd-floor sea-view seats at 5:10pm

I got there around 5:10pm, timed to right after break time ended. I figured that would be plenty early, but the seats overlooking Gangmun Beach on the 2nd floor were already all taken. 🥲 Missing out on good seats by just ten minutes! Next time I'll aim to arrive at exactly 5pm. If you want to properly enjoy the Gangmun Beach ocean view, definitely keep this in mind.

I figured a makguksu place would only serve makguksu, but there are all kinds of buckwheat gimbap too, plus sundubu, kalguksu, and even pork cutlet. After some deliberation we ordered fermented pollock bibim makguksu (₩12,000), buckwheat cheese pork cutlet roll (₩15,000), and flying fish roe buckwheat gimbap (₩6,500) — ₩33,500 total! Ordering was easy through the tablet at the table.

Table with tablet ordering
Table spread of makguksu, pork cutlet roll, and gimbap for two

Ordering three dishes for two of us turned out to be a generous amount. When traveling I end up hitting cafés and buying snacks at the market, so I like keeping at least one meal light. I went for dinner, but this seems like it'd be a great lunch option too. If you want to eat until you're really full here, the boiled pork or kalguksu dishes seem like a good call.

Fermented pollock bibim makguksu, 12,000 won

A bowl of fermented pollock bibim makguksu

With the pollock in there it wasn't bland at all, and there was fun in every bite. Moderately spicy, and buckwheat noodles are easy on the stomach. A dish you can slurp down quickly 👍 They also have water makguksu, perilla oil makguksu, bibim makguksu, and sundubu makguksu, so I'd love to try the other versions next time.

Buckwheat cheese pork cutlet roll, 15,000 won

Cut open the crispy fried cutlet roll and it's packed with cheese inside. It comes with rice and salad too, so it'd be a great order if you're visiting with kids.

Flying fish roe buckwheat gimbap, 6,500 won

Flying fish roe buckwheat gimbap made with buckwheat noodles

Gimbap made with buckwheat noodles instead of rice! You know how traveling makes you gain weight — dishes like this give your stomach a bit of a break. A tasty diet-friendly option!!

Gossi's has a patented buckwheat gimbap. There are ten different kinds!!! When I visited, the avocado one was sold out, which was a bummer.

But look at that flying fish roe on top. Not just a sprinkle — it's completely loaded!!🧡🧡 The roe popping in your mouth is the best!! ✅️ Also seems great to get to-go and eat at Gangmun Beach or back at your accommodation!!

Is Gossi's worth a stop on a Gangmun Beach day trip?

The location and parking felt genuinely convenient from a traveler's point of view. Right across from Gangmun Beach, so it's easy to eat and then stroll along the water, and since you can use the public parking lot, it's less of a burden for travelers who drove in.

And if you want an ocean-view seat, even 5:10pm is too late. 😂 Next time I'd aim to arrive right at 5pm and grab a window seat on the 2nd floor. If you're looking for makguksu or sundubu near Gangmun Beach, this seems worth putting on your itinerary. 🌊
