On a weekday lunch, since my wife usually loves spicy-sweet tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake), we thought we'd have a little Yongsan IPARK Mall date and a walk too — "today's lunch is definitely bubbling, simmering, life-changing instant tteokbokki plus fried rice! 🥘" — and while looking for a good spot near Yongsan Station, we ended up here!!

I stumbled on this place by chance once when I was in Yongsan a while back, and I've been coming back every time since — hearty, spicy instant tteokbokki you cook right at the table, finished off with nutty fried rice, it's a total real deal! Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch sits in an alley near Yongsan and Sinyongsan Stations, making it super convenient to stop by right after shopping at IPARK Mall!! Its distinctive red building and sign grab your attention from a distance, so it's easy to spot 💡

Even though we arrived at an off-peak time past lunch rush, there was a CatchTable waiting list — it's clearly a bustling, popular hotspot 👍 (they even have a multilingual kiosk for international guests!)

Every table has friendly tips written out for cooking the instant tteokbokki perfectly, plus fried rice instructions, so even first-timers can enjoy it without any trouble!

At the self-bar there's basic fish cake broth along with crispy fried flakes to add in — and loading up the broth with fried flakes turned out to be the perfect kick for this place 🤩

Instead of our usual regular set, we ordered Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch's signature 'instant tteokbokki' and made sure to add the finishing 'fried rice' too!

As soon as we ordered, the pot arrived piled high like a tower with chewy rice cakes, fish cake, egg, and glass noodle sari (add-in) — the visual was pure art 📸

As it bubbled away, the spicy-sweet tteokbokki smell filled the air, and the moment we took our first bite, my wife and I couldn't help but gasp in admiration 😋

The glass noodles soaked up the sauce like a sponge, and combined with the soft rice cake and egg, we devoured everything in a storm — the umami was absolutely insane 😍

The highlight: fried rice with kimchi and seaweed flakes

After enjoying the tteokbokki for a while, it was time for today's real highlight — fried rice time!! 🔥 They stir-fry rice with fresh kimchi and nutty dried seaweed flakes right into the small pool of leftover sauce, and it's basically an unfair combo that can't possibly taste bad, haha.

The spicy-sweet sauce soaked into every grain of rice, and we scraped the pot clean down to the last spoonful 🤤 I'm about to burst, haha.
