Sangam DMC izakaya with salmon salad on shrimp crackers: Hanamato
In short
Hanamato Sangam DMC is an izakaya in Mapo, Seoul, a short walk from Digital Media City Station, with seating across the 1st and 2nd floors. From the open 2nd-floor window seats, this visit tried authentic Nagasaki champon (15,000 won), the best-5 charcoal-grilled yakitori set (13,000 won), a salmon salad (16,000 won) and scallop butter yaki, and the most memorable bite was the salmon salad piled onto the complimentary shrimp crackers served on the house. Hanamato works equally well for a drink after work, a team dinner or a second-round stop in Sangam.

This place has been getting a lot of word-of-mouth among office workers lately. It's easy to get to near DMC Station, and the vibe is perfect for a stop right after work. Let me share the menu items I fell for and my real visit experience, no holding back!

Time to order

The drinks joining us today

Authentic Nagasaki champon, 15,000 won: add the udon noodles
The first dish that landed on our table was Hanamato Sangam DMC's authentic Nagasaki champon (a spicy seafood noodle soup, ₩15,000). It was generously loaded with fresh seafood and crisp vegetables, and above all, the broth carried an incredible smoky, charred flavor from the chef's skill.

The depth of the broth: it was so creamy and rich that I let out a gasp with the very first spoonful.

A tip: it'd be a shame to stop there, right? Make sure to add the udon noodle option. The rich, refreshing broth soaks into the udon noodles beautifully, doubling the fun of slurping it all up. This was one addictive dish I kept coming back to.

Scallop butter yaki and its sweet teriyaki sauce

On top of that, we ordered the scallop butter yaki, where the sweetness of the teriyaki sauce met the tender scallops for a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Nothing beats this as a drinking snack. Paired with Saero soju, Cass Zero, and Fanta to suit our tastes, it made for a perfect dinner.

Charcoal-grilled yakitori best 5, 13,000 won: pick your own skewers
You can't come to an izakaya and skip the skewers, right? We ordered the best-5 charcoal-grilled yakitori (₩13,000), grilled over fire with the signature tare sauce for maximum smoky flavor.
For a reasonable ₩13,000, you get to choose five different cuts, which felt like great value too. The sweet-savory tare sauce mixed with the charcoal aroma filled the mouth with umami.

Salmon salad, 16,000 won, on Hanamato's complimentary shrimp crackers
Needing something refreshing, we ordered Hanamato Sangam DMC's popular salmon salad (₩16,000), and it didn't disappoint either. Fresh salad greens, soft salmon, and tangy yuzu sauce came together in perfect harmony, cleansing the palate.

And here's a special tip I discovered! I tried piling the salmon salad on top of the complimentary shrimp crackers the restaurant gave us, like a topping.
The crunchy texture of the cracker meeting the soft salmon and tangy yuzu sauce opened up a whole new world of flavor I hadn't tasted before. If you visit, definitely try this combo.
