A unique Chinese restaurant I found in Yongin
I found this place while looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Yongin! The name Doseogwan Dwitjip (“Behind the Library”) was unusual enough to make me curious, so I went to check it out, haha.

True to its name, there really were books inside, haha. Such a distinctive atmosphere where you can read while you eat! After visiting, I thought it was a place I’d like to introduce to anyone looking for a Chinese restaurant in Yongin. :)

What were the house-made noodles like?
The noodles here were a little special from the start! They make them with house-kneaded dough, and I heard they do not add the noodle improver commonly used to prevent noodles from going soft. Maybe that is why they definitely felt different from typical Chinese restaurant noodles. The texture was soft and chewy without being overly tough or hard, and so delicious!

They had a high chair, children’s bowls, spoons, and forks all ready, so it is really nice for a visit with a baby, haha.

I also liked that they aim for Chinese food that is easy on the stomach! I sometimes feel a little weighed down after Chinese restaurant food, but that feeling was less noticeable here even while eating, haha.

Sizzling stir-fried jjajangmyeon and tangsuyuk together
That day, we ordered sizzling stir-fried jjajangmyeon for two plus wellness glutinous-rice tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork)!

At first I thought it would just be ordinary stir-fried jjajangmyeon, but once it came out on a sizzling iron plate, it looked so good already, haha. And it really was delicious! It had a moderate spiciness—just the right level for me, someone who is weak with spicy food. There was also plenty of seafood, so I loved getting that seafood texture along with the noodles.

I heard Doseogwan Dwitjip uses very little water and, rather than creating sweetness with seasoning or sugar, draws out as much sweetness as possible from onions to combine with chunjang (black bean paste)!

And the wellness glutinous-rice tangsuyuk we ordered with it! We got the mini size and wondered whether it would be really small, but the portion was better than expected, haha.

It was just right for two people to share alongside the sizzling jjajangmyeon! Above all, the tangsuyuk was delicious because it had that distinctively chewy glutinous-rice texture. The coating was not too thick either. The combination of meat and chewy batter was so good that I kept reaching for more, haha.

Since the sizzling jjajangmyeon was a little spicy, having a piece of glutinous-rice tangsuyuk in between made the combination perfect! Considering the price too, it really felt like a little happiness for ₩10,000. 🤣

Why the scorched rice under the iron plate was my favorite
And the point I loved most was... that there was nurungji (crispy scorched rice) underneath the iron plate!

After eating some of the jjajangmyeon, I scraped up the scorched rice stuck to the bottom, and it was such a treat, haha. The spicy, rich sauce from the sizzling stir-fried jjajangmyeon had soaked into it a little, so I could enjoy every last bite.

It felt like getting one more dish compared with simply eating jjajangmyeon, so my satisfaction went UP. ❤️
Free rice and a self-service bar
There was also a self-service bar here! You can comfortably help yourself to whatever you need.

Best of all, bowls of rice were free! Rice being self-serve too—how great is that, haha? Such a good point for anyone who likes mixing rice into jjajang or stir-fried jjajangmyeon. I love this kind of self-service system, so it made me even more satisfied for no reason, haha.
They also said you can get a complimentary drink for leaving a review, so visitors may want to keep that in mind. There is another special benefit too: military personnel, police officers, and firefighters can get a large portion with no extra charge. I think benefits like this are really nice. 👏

Next time, I want to try the jjamppong noodles
We did not order jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) that day, but the noodles were so good that I wanted to come back for Yongin jjamppong next time. Maybe because they are house-made, the texture was clearly different from noodles I have had at other Chinese restaurants! It made me curious about what the jjamppong would be like too, haha.

Overall, the food was delicious, there were books, there was a self-service bar, and rice was free, so it had a really comfortable atmosphere for a meal.

What especially impressed me was that this was not just typical Chinese restaurant food—they use house-made noodles and try to highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients!

I recommend it to anyone looking for a proper Chinese restaurant in Yongin or in Giheung-gu, haha. This Yongin Chinese restaurant had us scraping up every bit of scorched rice from under the iron plate! We had such a delicious meal. ❤️
