Chuncheon Toegye-dong tonkatsu after rail biking: Jeongseong Katsu

In short

Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch is a tonkatsu restaurant in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon, serving cutlets made with Korean pork. After a day of rail biking, the family had dinner here, ordering the pork loin katsu set for 12,900 won and a sweet potato cheese katsu set with the non-spicy sauce for the children, and the staff brought out a baby chair and baby tableware. The batter came out crisp and the pork was not dry, making Jeongseong Katsu an easy Chuncheon tonkatsu choice for both kids and adults.

We went to Chuncheon to ride the rail bike, then headed over to dinner with the kids at Jeongseong Katsu, a well-known tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) spot in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon! The kids, me, and my husband all loved it — a real Chuncheon tonkatsu gem.

Spacious, clean interior of Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch

Is Jeongseong Katsu a good tonkatsu restaurant to visit with kids?

The place is spacious and clean!! A modern, comfortable interior and atmosphere ^^ Even while we were eating, tons of delivery orders kept coming in — clearly a popular Chuncheon tonkatsu spot.

When you have kids like I do, dining out with little ones is always a bit of a worry. But there's a menu kids never turn down = tonkatsu haha, no debate there. Last time we went for dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) with the kids, it was too spicy and they couldn't eat a bite.

Popular items include the mixed katsu set, old-school king-size pork cutlet set, kimchi cheese nabe (hot pot), and fillet katsu set. Besides those, there's also pasta, cold soba, udon, and gyudon (Japanese beef rice bowl).

Menu information at Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch

Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch itself was really clean!! At the tables next to us and behind us, other families were dining with kids who looked about 3 to 5 years old.

They have baby chairs on hand here and gave us baby tableware too. It's a Chuncheon tonkatsu spot where you can have a pleasant, relaxed meal even with a kid in tow! Great for a quick lunch or dinner, and also a nice, easy date spot ^^

You can order right at the table using a tablet like this. My husband wanted pork loin katsu so he ordered the pork loin katsu set, and I ordered the sweet potato cheese katsu set that the kids love. They also had a regular pork loin katsu and a jumbo version for anyone who likes a bigger portion.

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the cooking happen ^^!

Side dishes and choosing between the spicy and non-spicy sauce

Doesn't it look neat and pretty? Kimchi, cucumber pickles and radish, and sauce. You can also choose between a spicy sauce and the classic version — since we were eating with the kids, we went with the non-spicy one. The salad with yogurt dressing was tasty too, and wasabi and salt come on the side as well.

Basic side dishes: kimchi, cucumber pickles, radish, and sauce

What was really good was that the batter was crispy while the inside stayed tender, so the kids ate it up happily.

Some tonkatsu places have meat so dry it's tough to eat, but Jeongseong Katsu really knows how to do tonkatsu right!!

Jeongseong Katsu says they use fresh, 100% domestic Korean pork for their katsu. Generous portions and reasonable prices too.

What comes with the 12,900 won pork loin katsu set?

The set comes with pork loin katsu, rice, soup, and side dishes — pickles and radish, kimchi, salad, and even curry — all for 12,900 won!

The pork loin katsu had a savory flavor that came through more the more you chewed, with great richness!!

Since the pork loin katsu was so good, it made me curious about the fillet katsu too.

Sweet potato cheese katsu set: how the children liked it

Just looking at this sweet potato cheese tonkatsu makes you hungry!!!

There's a generous amount of mozzarella cheese inside, plus a hearty layer of sweet sweet potato mousse on top.

They say it's Jeongseong Katsu's popular menu item, and after trying it, I get why.

This is a menu item kids especially will love at Jeongseong Katsu, the tonkatsu spot in Toegye-dong.

Places selling sweet potato cheese tonkatsu seem to be getting rarer these days, but here they really don't hold back on piling on the sweet potato and cheese — I love it for that.

Curry served alongside the sweet potato cheese katsu

The curry served alongside, and adding extra rice

Curry came along with it too, and eating it with rice, it was slightly spicy with great umami — I ended up finishing a whole bowl of rice!! It might be a touch spicy for kids, but for adults it's a really tasty, just-a-little-spicy curry! I got so into the curry I ordered extra rice, and they kindly gave us more.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was quiet and calm, which I really liked ^^ and the staff were kind too.
