Cheongju omakase dinner course with tuna cuts: Dining Mihyang

In short

Dining Mihyang is a value-focused omakase dining restaurant on Dongnam-ro 83beon-gil in Sangdang-gu, Cheongju. A reserved 7pm visit on a Wednesday brought the 55,000-won dinner B-course, which opened with pumpkin porridge and ran through salmon sashimi, flounder, octopus, conch, scallop, grilled sea bass head, tuna served cut by cut, sushi, buckwheat noodles, tempura and omija tea. The course moved quickly with no dead time, and the owner's handmade soy sauce plus his remembering a no-wasabi request until the last plate made Dining Mihyang worth the booking.

What is Dining Mihyang, the omakase restaurant in Cheongju?

Today I'm bringing you my review of Dining Mihyang, an omakase restaurant in Cheongju haha. I was traveling in Cheongju last week and heard there was a budget-friendly omakase place here, so I went in with high expectations ♥

Exterior of Dining Mihyang
Interior of Dining Mihyang with its local, cozy feel

I went at 7pm on a Wednesday, a late enough hour that I could enjoy the omakase pretty leisurely. The interior has a really local, familiar feel — actually I liked that even more (›´-`‹ )

Since I'd made a reservation, my seat was already all set up like this >,<

Dining Mihyang's 55,000-won dinner B-course: how does it differ from the A-course?

What I ordered today was the dinner B-course! It's 55,000 won per person haha. The main difference between the A and B courses is apparently which cuts you get! And lunch is only 35,000 won!! An omakase for thirty-five thousand won — isn't that seriously great value?

Pumpkin porridge, the first dish of the dinner B-course

From pumpkin porridge to salmon sashimi and flounder

First up came pumpkin porridge. It had a mellow flavor — a solid, fundamental kind of taste.

Salmon sashimi with wasabi sauce and beet

Salmon sashimi got my appetite going. I can't eat wasabi, but the wasabi sauce here was zesty and delicious anyway, and it paired really well with the beet underneath. I could tell the owner really knows his stuff..

Then the real deal began — watching him carefully slice the sashimi in front of me was so exciting

A plate of freshly sliced flounder sashimi

Mr. Flounder .. I've missed you. It's been so long since I had sashimi like this, and I hadn't been drinking .. I've become a proud girl who doesn't really drink much these days

Oh, and also — Dining Mihyang is famous for its soy sauce. The owner makes it himself, apparently haha.

The owner's handmade soy sauce

Octopus, conch and the chili-vinegar dipping sauce

Octopus with cucumber and some kind of oil-based sauce? The octopus was chewy and delicious .. Dining Mihyang doesn't feel like the omakase places you find all over Seoul — it feels like a seasoned owner cooking with real skill.. it was so good ㅠ_ㅠ

Conch! It's delicious too, right? And the wild part is, the vinegar-chili sauce is also amazing..

More sashimi kept coming .. and the great thing is, everything came out really fast ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅎㅎ

Another sashimi plate served mid-course

Salmon again, this time with a zesty sauce .. genuinely delicious

Scallop came out too. The wasabi sauce had a pretty sharp kick, but it was warm and filled my mouth in the most satisfying way

Grilled sea bass head and tuna served cut by cut

Whose head was this again.. sea bass, I think? There was quite a lot of meat on it haha. So tender and satisfying .. I picked it apart carefully and ate every bit ^*^

Let's tuna time .. 🐠🐟 He served it up generously, cut by cut — the happiness from fifty-five thousand won just kept going

Finishing with sushi, buckwheat noodles and tempura

Heading toward the finish now ••• he starts making sushi ... ꒰ ⸝⸝ɞ̴̶̷ ·̮ ɞ̴̶̷⸝⸝꒱ I'd mentioned at the very start that I couldn't eat wasabi — by this point in the meal, most owners would've forgotten, but he remembered the whole way through .. such a thoughtful owner..

Buckwheat noodles came next, and I was already full. So much crushed ice on it — super cold, in a good way

Cold buckwheat noodles with plenty of crushed ice

Tempura came out too — onion, sweet pumpkin, perilla leaf, shrimp — a really solid variety, but I was way too full by then ㅠㅡㅠ

Assorted tempura: onion, sweet pumpkin, perilla leaf, and shrimp

And the true finish — omija (five-flavor berry) tea ..... phew .. it was truly a substantial meal

Is the Dining Mihyang dinner course worth it?

Overall, my satisfaction relative to the price was really high at Dining Mihyang, this Cheongju omakase spot. For 55,000 won and this kind of spread on the dinner B-course, it deserves to be ranked among Cheongju's best value omakase places ꒰ ՞•ﻌ•՞ ꒱ The restaurant has more of a cozy, local vibe than a flashy one, so it was easy to sit and relax, and since it was Wednesday evening, I could enjoy it at a leisurely pace.

Salmon sashimi, flounder, octopus, conch, scallop, grilled sea bass head, a full tuna cutting, sushi, tempura, and buckwheat noodles all came out generously, and the course moved along quickly so there was never any waiting around ◡̈ The owner's handmade soy sauce especially stood out, and the fact that he remembered my no-wasabi request the whole way through really stuck with me ♥

Unlike the omakase places you find everywhere in Seoul, this feels like a skilled, experienced owner serving food with real care — I'd fully recommend it for a date in Cheongju, a meal with parents, or anyone looking for a great restaurant while traveling through Cheongju! Lunch is apparently 35,000 won, so I'd love to come back for that next time ˃̵ᴗ˂̵
