Suwon rice paper roll buffet with unlimited beef brisket: Pyeonbaek

In short

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Cheoncheon Branch (편백회관 천천점) is an all-you-can-eat cypress-steamed meat and shabu-shabu restaurant on the 8th floor of the CU building near Lotte Mart in Cheoncheon-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon. Visiting as a pair, the writer wrapped 10 rice paper rolls with the cypress-steamed meat, then switched to bone-broth mala and katsuobushi broths and piled in woo samgyeop (thin beef brisket) for a second shabu-shabu round. With chicken, tteokbokki, cold soba noodles and porridge ingredients on the self-bar, two people still left completely full.

I was craving shabu-shabu so hard that I searched it up and ended up at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Cheoncheon Branch! It's famous as an all-you-can-eat spot in Cheoncheon-dong, Suwon haha.

Where is Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Cheoncheon Branch, and where do you park?

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Cheoncheon Branch is on the 8th floor of a CU building near Lotte Mart around Jeongja-dong and Cheoncheon-dong! Parking is available in the building, but since we went on a weekday lunch it was full, so we parked in a nearby alley!

The inside is... seriously huge. So many seats too lol, and it was already clearly a famous spot for group gatherings like 70th birthday parties! Looking at the photos below, with birthday parties, welcome parties and such, it seems people of all ages come here to reserve birthday celebrations, since it's a menu older folks love too!

Cypress-steamed meat first, shabu-shabu second

Right as you walk into Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Cheoncheon Branch, there's a drinks zone. The lemon water is really sour^_^ haha, probably just cold water mixed with lemon juice.

Once you're seated, they explain how it works,

  • They set up the cypress-steamed meat first
  • After you finish, you switch to shabu-shabu (choose your broth)

Cypress-steamed meat first, start! It takes about 10 minutes to set up, so we went and checked out the self-bar in the meantime!

What's on the self-bar at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan? Unlimited vegetables, meat and rice paper rolls

These are the shabu-shabu vegetables for after finishing the cypress-steamed meat. Lots of mushrooms, fried tofu, dumplings, vegetables, fish cake and more. Pretty much every vegetable you'd want is there — bean sprouts, napa cabbage, green onion, bok choy, and more!

The Vietnamese wrap (rice paper roll) vegetables to eat with the cypress-steamed meat! The bowls cutely had the vegetable names written on them, so I matched them up while filling my plate. For me, cucumber strips, onion, and cabbage are absolute musts!

The Vietnamese wraps are also all-you-can-eat, and the meat for shabu-shabu too — unlimited! We really loaded up on woo samgyeop (thin beef short rib) ^_^ haha.

You can freely grab sauces or refills from the self-bar, and individual sauces are provided by default at every table — coming up in the photos below! Only the basic broths are included, and extra broths need to be ordered.

There's also cold soba, and you can freely grab rice and porridge ingredients too!

We were so hungry waiting for the cypress-steamed meat to finish that we snacked on other food while we waited! Chicken, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), salad, gochu japchae — quite the variety.

Munching on chicken and cold soba while waiting, time flew by haha.

Three sauces and how much the extra broths cost

The sauces I mentioned earlier! Chili sauce, soy sauce, peanut sauce 🖤 — absolutely necessary for the Vietnamese wraps haha.

You can choose your broth, but each one has a bit of a surcharge. Still, it's in the high ₩10,000s, so the value is amazing 👍🏻

10 rice paper rolls with the cypress-steamed meat: enough for two

The cypress-steamed meat is done!! There was so much meat that I got fuller than expected. Maybe because there were only two of us?!

I really wanted the Vietnamese wraps, and we wrapped up about 10 of them~~! So, so, so delicious ㅠㅠ. I'm the person who's obsessed with Vietnamese wraps..!!!!

Round two: bone-broth mala and katsuobushi broth with beef brisket

After finishing, our ordered bone broth mala broth and katsuobushi broth! For the mala, they give you the sauce separately, so add it to your taste. We still added almost all of it!

Piled on a ton of meat and vegetables

Pots of bone broth mala broth and katsuobushi broth

Loaded it all in, and round two — shabu-shabu — begins! After eating our fill of cypress-steamed meat, moving on to shabu-shabu felt amazing. Ahh...

On the way out I noticed there's a separate handwashing station — make sure to wash your hands before eating the Vietnamese wraps haha. I'd love to go back to Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Cheoncheon Branch again 👍🏻👍🏻☺️
