When you're setting up a lunch meeting near Seonleung Station, even picking the menu can be a bit of a headache, right? While looking for something clean but filling, I visited Manmok, a Daechi-dong favorite! Here's my honest review, from location to menu to taste.
Where is Manmok, and what are its hours and break time?

Manmok is open daily from 11am to 10pm. There's a break time from 3pm to 5pm, and last order is at 2:20pm and 9:20pm.

Manmok is easy to get to even by public transit. It's a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seonleung Station, so even strolling there it doesn't take long. Just go straight from the main road and turn into the alley. It wasn't hard to find even on my first visit~ If you're driving, there are 2 parking spots in front of the restaurant. Just note that they can fill up quickly during lunch or dinner peak hours, so it's worth calling ahead to check!
Inside Manmok: a clean, upscale dining room

The interior has a tidy, upscale feel. The tables were kept clean and well arranged, giving off a calm atmosphere for a relaxed meal. Unlike your typical bustling rice restaurant, it's a good place to eat while chatting at a leisurely pace. If you're visiting with your parents, meeting for an important lunch, or want a Gangnam lunch spot with good atmosphere as well as food, I'd recommend it.
Manmok prices: half eel rice bowl 26,000 won, full 39,000 won

I came for eel at lunch. The signature menu is the half eel rice bowl at ₩26,000, and the full one comes to ₩39,000. If you don't eat much, you can go with the half.

Manmok's eel rice bowl comes with rice and charcoal-grilled eel in a square container, served alongside chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg custard), salad, and matsutake mushroom soup.

There's also wasabi, ginger, sancho pepper, and pickled side dishes, so you can adjust the flavor to your taste. It all comes out as a neat set, so I'd recommend it to office workers looking for a tidy lunch spot.

Is the half serving of charcoal-grilled eel enough?
I ordered the half eel rice bowl. Even the half was really generous, don't you think? At Manmok, a Gangnam favorite, the eel is Gochang freshwater eel, grilled once, then steamed, brushed with a special sauce, and grilled again over charcoal.

Thanks to that process, the flesh was moist with a subtle smoky aftertaste — so delicious~ The sauce wasn't too sweet or strong, the seasoning was just right!

It's a hearty yet refined Daechi-dong spot, so even those worried about the eel being too rich should be able to enjoy it without feeling heavy. When looking for a good eel rice bowl place, the sides matter almost as much as the main dish, and this place felt like it paid attention to those details too.
What comes with the eel bowl: chawanmushi, salad and matsutake soup

The side dishes weren't just for show either. The chawanmushi, Japanese-style steamed egg, was as soft as pudding. There was shrimp inside too, which added nice texture.

The salad had fresh vegetables with a sesame dressing that was sweet and nutty, and delicious — it whetted my appetite before digging into the eel~

And the matsutake mushroom soup had a strong mushroom aroma. Even though it's a clear broth, the flavor was deep, and it was great for cleansing the palate between bites. From the main dish to the soup, this is a well-rounded Daechi-dong restaurant I'd recommend to anyone who prefers a clean meal.

Dessert at Manmok: bar ice cream in matcha or black tea
And Manmok even takes care of dessert, which impressed me. After the meal, you get a bar ice cream, and you can choose matcha or black tea depending on your taste~ I picked matcha and my friend picked black tea, and we shared.

Since I usually like matcha, I thought the matcha one was tastier, while my friend said the black tea one was better. Having a nice dessert on top of everything made the meal even more satisfying.

That was my review of Manmok's eel rice bowl~ Thanks to the clean atmosphere and neat table setting, I felt properly treated to a lunch. If you're looking for a special eel meal near Seonleung Station, I'd recommend Manmok!
