Welcome drink and the sake promotion at Koma Yeonnam

As soon as we sat down, they brought out a welcome drink — today it was a soju with a proper peach scent!

Koma Yeonnam's menu is huge, and for one month there's a sake event with Musashino Green at a bargain ₩40,000 down from ₩65,000, so if you're with a group, get the sake!

Tori paitan, 15,500 won: ramen-shop quality broth

The first thing we picked at Koma Yeonnam was tori paitan (chicken paitan ramen, ₩15,500).

A bowl of Koma Yeonnam's tori paitan

It was raining, so I figured something with broth would be nice — I didn't expect a place that's not even a dedicated ramen shop to nail it this properly.

Tori paitan broth packed with ingredients

Tori paitan simmered generously with ingredients! The clear broth is excellent, and adding the sriracha they serve alongside makes it taste even better.

The noodles were cooked just right, and every ingredient blended into the broth without a single imbalance.

Drizzled with sriracha like this, a slight spicy kick rises up and it becomes clean and satisfying to eat.

Sesiri yaki, 17,500 won: grilled chicken neck

Sesiri yaki (₩17,500) is grilled chicken thigh, served with a yuzu-sauced salad and mayonnaise on the side — a great pairing.

Wait, this is a newly launched menu item and it's already this good?

Couldn't resist at that point. They also gave us ice, so diluting the drink fully to pair with it worked really well!

Anago tempura, 22,500 won: Korea's answer to fish and chips

Anago tempura (conger eel tempura, ₩22,500) is soft anago fried up crispy in Japanese-style batter — you have to order this.

It comes with a generous four pieces for the price, and the frying is top-notch — just look at the color of the batter, that's how you know the oil here is clean, clean.

Dip it in the sauce and it cuts through any greasiness completely... if you're ordering several dishes, make sure to get this one. It's K-fish and chips.

Who should go to Koma Yeonnam?

A well-cooked izakaya I'd recommend to anyone on a date or out with friends in Yeonnam-dong — that's Koma Yeonnam.
