In short

Naengmyeon Gajun Dongtan Main Branch is a Korean naengmyeon restaurant on the 2nd floor of Luna Gallery, overlooking Dongtan Lake Park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The writer took a window seat timed to the fountain show and ordered galbitang (short rib soup) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) with octopus mandu (dumplings) on the side, all delivered to the table by a serving robot. With basement parking, baby chairs and aprons, Naengmyeon Gajun made for an easy family lunch out.

Watching the Dongtan Lake Park fountain show from a window seat

The window seats at Naengmyeon Gajun Dongtan Main Branch have a wide-open view of Dongtan Lake Park. Going for lunch timed to the fountain show meant I got to watch it from the best seat in the house at the window.

The overall vibe was clean and comfortable, which felt easy and unpretentious for a family meal, and the tables were spaced generously so we could enjoy eating without feeling cramped~!

They also had baby chairs and aprons on hand, which made eating with a little one really convenient~

Going for lunch on a nice day timed to the fountain show meant I got to watch the show from the best window seat like this — such magic that turns an ordinary lunch into something special~~ haha. The window view was so amazing it felt like a special date, and I really felt glad I came here haha.

A serving robot brings the food to your table

One quietly fun part of the meal was the robot serving at Naengmyeon Gajun Dongtan Main Branch~! Once your order is ready, a serving robot brings the food right to your table — it was novel and felt kind of futuristic the first time I saw it~

Instead of staff constantly walking back and forth, the food comes to the table via robot, which gave the whole meal a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. If you're visiting with kids, watching the robot bring the food would be an entertaining sight in itself, and even for adults it felt like a distinctly modern-restaurant touch~!

How was the galbitang (short rib soup)?

The galbitang at Naengmyeon Gajun Dongtan Main Branch came out neat and simple, perfect for an easy lunch~!! The broth wasn't overly salty — it was clean-tasting with a mild, savory depth.

Just looking at it felt filling, and the first spoonful of broth had a clean yet deep flavor~ Rather than an intensely salty style, the broth had a mild, savory richness that built up, so I kept spooning it up without any heaviness! Eating warm broth with rice made for a pretty hearty meal ^^

The short rib meat was easy to pick off the bone with chopsticks, and eating the tender meat with the broth balanced nicely with the clean flavor. Mixing a bit of rice into the broth and eating it with a piece of meat was so good~! Cold noodle dishes are great too, but on days when you want something warm and hearty, I definitely recommend a bowl of galbitang :)

Bibim naengmyeon and octopus mandu together

The bibim naengmyeon at Naengmyeon Gajun Dongtan Main Branch had a spicy flavor with a subtle sweetness, and it paired really well with the plate of octopus mandu I ordered as a side.

Spicy sauced bibim naengmyeon

The bibim naengmyeon looked appetizing just to look at~~ The spicy sauce was tossed appealingly over the springy noodles, making my mouth water at first glance~! Mixing the noodles thoroughly and taking a bite, the flavor was spicy with a subtle sweetness, surprisingly easy to eat without feeling too heavy ^^

The sauce coated the noodles evenly, so every bite brought a tangy, spicy flavor, and the chewy noodles paired well with the sauce — I really enjoyed it~

And the plate of octopus mandu I ordered as a side!

Clean-tasting octopus mandu with translucent skin that lets you feel the texture of the octopus!! The wrapper was chewy, and inside was octopus, giving a chewy texture and that distinct seafood savoriness~! Tasty on its own, but pairing it with the bibim naengmyeon worked really well — the spicy sauce matched nicely with the clean, chewy mandu 👍👍👍

If naengmyeon alone feels like it's not quite enough, ordering octopus mandu as a side to share is a nice combo ☺️ If you're looking for a family-friendly restaurant near Dongtan Lake Park, give Naengmyeon Gajun Dongtan Main Branch a try for lunch ◕‿◕✿
