Kalguksu dinner with a kid and tteokgalbi in Seongnam: Gangnam Gyoja
In short
Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant near Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, on the 2nd floor of the building next to Daebbang Arcade in the Rodeo area. Dining with an elementary-school child, the writer ordered one kalguksu, a plate of 10 gyoza dumplings and 2 pieces of tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), and found the chicken broth rich and the kimchi mild enough for a kid. Gangnam Gyoja is an easy pick near Seohyeon Station for a warm bowl of soup with a child on a chilly day.

If there's one food that everyone loves, kids and adults alike, it's got to be noodles. And among noodle dishes, this kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) was just so good.
Where is Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch, and what are its hours?

Even the exterior on the 2nd floor looks clean and delicious!!

Is Gangnam Gyoja good with kids? Baby chairs and seating
Once you step inside Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch, the tables are spaced out nicely so it's comfortable to eat. If you're bringing an infant or toddler, there are baby chairs too, so you can go without worry ^^

What is on the menu at Gangnam Gyoja?
The signature dish here is kalguksu, but there's also spicy kalguksu, sujebi (hand-torn dough soup), bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), kongguksu (cold soy milk noodles), chogye guksu (chilled sesame noodle soup), and bibimbap for full meals, plus side dishes like gyoza dumplings, bossam (boiled pork wraps), and tteokgalbi that pair nicely.

That day, I went with my elementary-age kid and we ordered one kalguksu, gyoza dumplings, and 2 pieces of tteokgalbi.

Is the kimchi mild enough for a child?
For a kalguksu restaurant, the kimchi flavor really matters, and Gangnam Gyoja's kimchi wasn't too spicy. Honestly I thought it was even better than Myeong+Gyoja's. It was easy to eat together with my kid.

Gyoza dumplings and tteokgalbi: how much do you get?
The gyoza dumplings and tteokgalbi we ordered first came out. The piping hot dumplings were so tasty, and the tteokgalbi went great alongside them. The gyoza dumplings come 10 to a plate and the tteokgalbi comes 2 pieces per order — the portions were generous and satisfying.

I found out too late, but apparently if you leave a receipt review, you get one free piece of tteokgalbi. I paid for everything myself, but if you're reading this and heading there, please make sure to get that perk........ㅜㅜ

How were the kalguksu broth and noodles?
Wow,,, the kalguksu at Gangnam Gyoja was really delicious. The chicken-broth base, simmered for a long time, was incredibly deep and flavorful. The noodles were also soft and chewy, easy for my kid to eat. Even eating late in the evening, the noodles were gentle enough on the stomach that digestion wasn't an issue.

The meat and dumplings mixed in were also very generous. My kid kept complimenting how good it was the whole time we ate,,

Why dumplings are a must with kalguksu at Gangnam Gyoja
If you're ordering kalguksu at Gangnam Gyoja, the dumplings are a must-order. Please, please get them!! The kalguksu broth is genuinely delicious. It made me want to mix rice right into it. I had ordered plenty of sides so I was too full and barely held back, but if you're only getting kalguksu by itself, you'll probably understand what I mean.... Not that the kalguksu portion is small, though — it's just that good....ㅎㅎㅎ

Worth it near Seohyeon Station on a chilly evening
Anyway, with the weather getting chillier, this is exactly the kind of Seohyeon Station restaurant that'll come to mind often. Families with kids will definitely find the flavor a hit, and it's also a nice spot for a date. Recommended~~^^
