Icheon is a spot I often visit on drives near Seoul, and this time I went for a weekend outing. Wanting a clean, well-set meal, I headed to Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch, a well-known Icheon galbi and meat restaurant,

and there's a large private parking lot too, so getting there was easy.

There's also a waiting area, so even with a line on weekends or holidays, it shouldn't feel too uncomfortable.

The interior of Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch was very spacious and pleasant — a great first impression. This is the Icheon restaurant that won the 'Grand Prize' from the Speaker of the National Assembly! Let's step inside.

It felt like a place equally good for a casual lunch or for hosting guests. I found out after arriving that Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is a genuine standout, with dishes prepared by hands with 30 years of experience — a certified Korean food master.

Learning it was selected as a 2026 Blue Ribbon Korean food master restaurant made my expectations climb even higher.

It's originally known as a leading Icheon meat restaurant famous for charcoal-grilled Icheon galbi and pork belly, but we timed our visit for lunch to enjoy the great-value lunch special instead.

What comes in the 24,900 won soy crab and jeyuk ssambap lunch set

What we chose was one of the lunch specials — the soy crab / jeyuk ssambap set, priced at 24,900 won per person.

The lunch special can only be ordered until 2:30pm. I think it's a solid combination that lets you try the two signature dishes — the famous soy crab and jeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried pork) — at once.

After ordering, seven clean side dishes were set out — from kimchi to various banchan (side dishes) — all neatly presented, and above all, every single one was delicious.

It was nice that you could grab as many extra ssam vegetables as you wanted from the self-serve corner.

How did the jeyuk, soy crab, pot rice and tendon doenjang stew taste?

The jeyuk bokkeum at Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch was exactly the seasoning style I love! Not harsh or overly spicy — a subtle depth of flavor that melted right into my mouth.

No gamey smell from the meat at all, and the seasoning had soaked in beautifully. The soy crab that came with it was also plenty for two people to share.

It's ganjang gejang (soy sauce marinated crab), and there was no fishy taste at all, with the meat packed full — very satisfying to eat. I'm on a diet and have been working hard to shrink my stomach, but with food this good, I couldn't help but want more rice. The rice is served as a pot rice, cooked earthily with hwangmi rice milled fresh every day.

The stickiness and sweetness were excellent, perfect for piling on the jeyuk and soy crab.

Oh! The doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) that came with the set was seriously amazing — it had chewy beef tendon inside, giving it an earthy, deep flavor that was just artistry.

From the side dishes to the jeyuk, soy crab, and doenjang stew, nothing left me wanting — I ended up eating way more rice than I meant to, haha.

Is the Neul Gogi Jip lunch special worth the price?

At first, I thought the lunch special price of 24,900 won per person at Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch seemed a bit steep. But once I tasted the neat, generous side dishes, the pot rice, the soy crab, the jeyuk, and the tendon doenjang stew — a table absolutely packed with food — I realized this was not overpriced at all. Trust this Korean food lover and give it a visit.
