Lately, invitation-gathering plans have all landed at once, so I’ve basically been checking in at Gangnam Station every week haha. Every time we pick a meeting place, choosing the menu is seriously no small matter.

For an invitation gathering, food that is too heavy feels like a burden, and we also had friends dieting to consider. After much thought, we chose pho—something wholesome that everyone could enjoy without strong likes or dislikes! This time, we went to Anan Gangnam Direct Store (안안 강남직영점), a Vietnamese restaurant near Gangnam Station that came highly recommended for a group of five.

Anan near Gangnam Station: location, reservations, and waiting area

Anan Gangnam Direct Store was just a three-minute walk from Exit 12 of Gangnam Station, making it perfect for an invitation-gathering venue!

Were reservations and waiting convenient?

The area around Gangnam Station is always so crowded, whether it’s a weekday evening or weekend, that reservations and the waiting setup are what I worry about most when choosing a gathering spot. Anan, a popular Vietnamese restaurant near Gangnam Station, is hugely popular, so I absolutely recommend reserving in advance.

We visited with a reservation, and when we arrived there was a Catchtable waitlist-registration machine in front of the restaurant. If you come without a reservation, register for the waitlist first. Haha.

What I really loved most was the separate, neat indoor waiting area! Instead of standing outside in the heat or cold, we could sit comfortably on chairs inside while waiting. It felt like they had really considered guests coming for Gangnam Station work dinners or gatherings.

Near the entrance, they were also running a little lucky-draw event where joining the KakaoTalk channel guaranteed a gift! We all joined while waiting for our food, and having a little laugh together made the start of the gathering feel much warmer.

A comfortable restaurant atmosphere for five-person invitation gatherings

Interior atmosphere at Anan Gangnam

When choosing a gathering place, the atmosphere and table layout matter just as much as the food, right? Anan Gangnam had high ceilings and a spacious interior, so it never felt stuffy the moment we walked in.

The tables were generously spaced, too, so five of us could sit around one table and chat very comfortably without noise getting in the way. The lighting was a warm tone—not too dark or tiring on the eyes—so the photos came out beautifully as well.

What five of us shared at Anan

Since there were five of us this time, we decided to order a generous spread of Anan’s signature dishes by category and share them.

Vietnamese dishes ordered at Anan Gangnam

As a Vietnamese-food spot near Gangnam Station with such a reputation, there were just too many things on the menu that I wanted to try.

Menu at Anan Gangnam

We ordered bánh xèo, pineapple fried rice, garlic stir-fried water spinach, bún chả, bún thịt nướng (spicy mixed rice noodles with pork), and Vietnamese-style fried noodles.

Bánh xèo

This is a Vietnamese crêpe: you wrap crisp-fried vegetables, bean sprouts, and meat in rice paper, then dip it in sauce. The outside was shatteringly crisp while the inside stayed moist, so the texture was truly perfect. Honestly, because you have to make the rice-paper wraps with your hands, I thought, “Ah… at a slightly awkward gathering, using your hands might feel a little embarrassing?” haha. But ours was an invitation gathering with close friends, so we ate it enthusiastically without any discomfort.

Garlic stir-fried water spinach

This dish had a subtle wok aroma, the nutty savor of garlic, and water spinach’s crisp texture all beautifully intact. It was perfect to pick at like pickles between the main dishes, so I’d recommend it as a must-order for every table.

Bún chả

This dish combines fresh vegetables, charcoal-scented pork, and springy rice noodles dipped in a sweet-and-tangy nước mắm fish-sauce dressing. The noodles did not get soggy easily even over time, and the sauce had deep flavor, making it a great fit for Korean tastes.

Bún thịt nướng and Vietnamese fried noodles

The bún thịt nướng, mixed rice noodles with spicy stir-fried pork, and the fried noodles had just the right balance of savory depth and spice. They helped freshen up the palate when it could otherwise become a little rich.

Pineapple fried rice

The sweet pineapple and tomato sauce were the key! It was not rich or greasy, so even people who are not very good with Vietnamese food could enjoy it comfortably.

Overall, the food was not overly salty or heavily seasoned, yet the distinctive local spice flavors still came through in a refined way, so it felt easy on the stomach and went down without any burden. Even friends who were dieting could eat deliciously without worrying about calories, making it an excellent choice for a Gangnam Station lunch date or a light meal gathering.

Final thoughts on our invitation gathering

Invitation-gathering meal at Anan near Gangnam Station

Since I was choosing a place for an invitation gathering, I was secretly nervous that the food might not suit my friends’ tastes. But everyone who came with me kept saying, “The food here is so clean and delicious,” and “You picked such a great place,” so I was able to end the gathering feeling very pleased.

  • Taste: ★★★★★ (Not overpowering; the natural flavors of the ingredients and local-style flavors work beautifully together)
  • Atmosphere: ★★★★★ (High ceilings and a pleasant interior, plus a fully equipped indoor waiting area that is ideal for gatherings)
  • Service: ★★★★★ (Quick responses from the staff and a fun KakaoTalk-channel lucky-draw event)
  • Would return: 200% (My top recommendation for Vietnamese food near Gangnam Station for an invitation gathering)

If you are looking near Gangnam Station for an invitation gathering, work dinner, or an easy-on-the-stomach lunch appointment, definitely visit Anan Gangnam. It is a popular restaurant, so use Catchtable or reserve in advance for an even more pleasant meal without the wait!
