Hanam restaurant for smoky jjukkumi: Jigueseo On Jjukkumi

In short

Jigueseo On Jjukkumi Hanam Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Hanam, Gyeonggi, serving jjukkumi sotbap sets with perilla oil. We ordered two 13,000-won sets by the window, then finished with seaweed soup, scorched-rice tea, coffee, and ice cream. Verdict: a clean, satisfyingly spicy jjukkumi meal worth returning for.

On a weekend with lovely weather, I suddenly craved something spicy and spotted this great jjukkumi place in Hanam while searching.

Jjukkumi restaurant visited in Hanam

A warm restaurant at the end of an alley

Following the navigation, we ended up entering a bit of an alley that made me wonder, Is there really a restaurant here? Then this pretty building appeared, perfectly suited to the crisp autumn sky. haha

The interior was pleasant—lots of tables, and lots of people too. I hurried straight to a window seat.

It has such a cozy, warm atmosphere. I think it would be lovely in winter too, with a bit of a Christmas feel.

Why were perilla seeds and perilla oil displayed together in one area? Turns out this is a spot known for its perilla oil! I’ll introduce the perilla-oil jjukkumi below.

It also received an award in the 2024 Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation. Honestly, it is in a location that would be hard to visit without a car, so I wondered whether people would come all the way out here—but what do you know, it was busier than I expected. After tasting the truly delicious jjukkumi, I also thought I would have to come back again.

A sotbap set that won me over starting with the seaweed soup

These are the basic side dishes. Every single one was really delicious... Especially that miyeokguk (seaweed soup)! It is such a common soup at home, but even the seaweed soup here was insanely good, so I polished off a bowl before the meal had properly even begun. haha

This is Jigueseo On Jjukkumi Hanam Main Branch’s hidden card: perilla oil. They say they use perilla oil pressed directly at an oil mill to preserve a truly nutty flavor without that machine-like smell. Apparently, returning customers recognize it first.

And there was sotbap (rice cooked in an individual stone pot), too! You scoop out the rice, pour in hot water, and enjoy sungnyung (toasted-rice tea).

Ahh—this is all ₩13,000. Isn’t that such a great price??

Jjukkumi with smoky flavor and nutty perilla oil

This was for two people, but there was so much jjukkumi—and, above all, these were not tiny little pieces. They were big and plump, so “what a generous portion” just slipped out. Even before taking a bite, the smoky aroma really got my appetite going.

Smoky jjukkumi dish

For a spicy flavor that is easy on the stomach rather than harsh, they make their own seasoning with Korean chili powder, apples, pears, shiitake mushrooms, goji berries, omija (five-flavor berry), and more.

House-made jjukkumi seasoning

I gave the smoky, spicy jjukkumi a quick swirl of perilla oil pressed directly at the mill. The smoky aroma plus that nutty perilla-oil scent was honestly wildㅠㅠ

It is wonderfully clean and spicy!! One swirl of perilla oil adds a nutty note, so after the smoky heat comes another layer of richness, and the overall flavor is so good. The jjukkumi was chewy, wonderfully plump, and fun to bite into, too.

Jjukkumi and toasted-rice tea to finish

With the warm sungnyung, I topped it with the restaurant’s house-made kimchi and jjukkumi and ate every last bit. It made for such a warm, savory finish right down to the stomach.

Finishing with coffee and ice cream

There was no need to move to a café: ice cream and coffee were provided, so we even made sure to enjoy an affogato, too.. haha

Outdoor space used after dining

There is also a space like this outside the restaurant. You can wait here, or enjoy coffee or ice cream for dessert after your meal. It was my first visit, but I could see why so many people come here. Whenever I crave clean, spicy jjukkumi in the future, I will come back without hesitation.
