Namhansanseong bakery café with a hill-road drive and parking: Sum

This is a revisit to Sum, a café in Namhansanseong, from a weekend afternoon visit in August 2026.

Sum's hours, prices and basic info

Sum is open every day with no regular closed days — weekdays 10:00-20:30 (last order 20:00), weekends 10:00-21:30 (last order 21:00). They said the closing time flexes a bit by season.

Where Sum is and the 800m hill road up from Ojeon-ri market

From the Namhansanseong Ojeon-ri farmers' direct market, it's about an 800-meter drive straight up. There's a sign for Sum at the Ojeon-ri market pointing you up the hill road.

Following that road up, you'll hit a fork, but it's clearly signposted — take the road on the right.

Once you turn onto the right-hand road it narrows a bit, so drive carefully!

What's on the menu and bakery counter at Sum

There's also a cake menu, but by the time we arrived around 4pm on a weekend, a lot of items were sold out.

It's a bakery café so there's a huge variety of bread and desserts!

The white roll looked like it would've been tasty, but it was sold out.

Main building, annex and where to park at Sum

Sum is a large café split into a main building and an annex. This side is the annex — and here's the entrance to the main building.

There's plenty of parking. Once you come up the hill, there's a large lot to the right, and fewer than 10 spots right in front of the café.

Floors 1 and 2: floor-to-ceiling mountain views in Sum's main building

Once you step into the main building, there's a bakery display case and an order counter.

It's the first floor, but the elevation is high, so the view was actually great! There are extra chairs and a complimentary side table set up.

These are the separate men's and women's restrooms on the 1st floor.

Let's head up to the 2nd floor too. When we arrived there were barely any open seats, but as it got toward evening, customers gradually cleared out! Both floors 1 and 2 have floor-to-ceiling windows, so you get a wide-open view.

We got lucky and grabbed a prime seat and just relaxed haha. While gazing at the mountain view, even though it was still summer weather, the leaves had started turning slightly red — autumn creeping in.

The 2nd floor also has a complimentary side table and baby chairs.

It's great that the 2nd floor has its own separate restroom too! This is exactly the kind of café that's great to bring parents to, and since it involves stairs, going back and forth can be tough for them — so having a restroom on the 2nd floor too was really nice!

Sum's main-building rooftop and outdoor seats

Let's head up to the main building's rooftop. You have to keep climbing from the Namhansanseong café street, but in exchange you get a wide-open view, so it's worth the climb!

There aren't separate tables on the rooftop, but you can take photos and rest for a bit. Just coming up here, the air felt so fresh — it had been a while since I breathed air this clean, haha!

You could hear birds singing too — it was a healing moment out in nature.

There's also outdoor seating on the 1st floor of the main building.

There were still some hydrangeas left too — I bet they were gorgeous in full bloom!

The annex music listening room and group tables at Sum

The annex connects to floors 1 and 2 of the main building. The annex's 1st floor has a beam projector and functions as a music listening room, playing songs. Seats are limited, but this area also has floor-to-ceiling windows!

The annex's 2nd floor was bigger than I expected. There's group seating toward the back too. It's noticeably quieter than the open floors 1 and 2 of the main building, so pick whichever atmosphere suits you.

The annex has its own rooftop too! It's not connected to the main building's rooftop.

Jeju matcha latte 7,500 won and vanilla bean latte 8,000 won

For this visit, with three of us, we ordered 2 vanilla bean lattes at ₩8,000 each and 1 Jeju matcha latte at ₩7,500. Being a large café, the prices run a bit higher.

They said the matcha is Jeju matcha, and the vanilla bean latte uses natural Madagascar vanilla bean!

The matcha latte was pleasantly sweet, not too heavy or bitter — just right!

The vanilla bean latte was less sweet than I expected — bitter, with a strong coffee flavor and just the faintest hint of Jjolbyeong (crunchy corn puff) sweetness alongside the vanilla.

Is Sum a good Namhansanseong café to bring parents to?

It had been a while since I'd visited a Namhansanseong café, and being a café surrounded by nature, it really was as nice as I remembered. My mom especially loved it — this is a genuinely good café to visit with parents and family. It's also a great drive date destination.

Personally, I thought the Jeju matcha latte was the tastier drink! I'll probably order it again next time.

Namhansanseong is already well known as a nearby drive destination, for its baeksuk (whole chicken soup) restaurant street, and its cafés — and among them, I wanted to introduce Sum, where you can enjoy a refreshing mountain view through the wide-open floor-to-ceiling windows on floors 1 and 2!

The bakery seems to be popular too — by around 6pm on the weekend, this was all that was left!
