Gwangju bakery café for chocolate eclair and Earl Grey scone: Sum

Today I've got a review of the bread and coffee I had at Café Sum in Namhansanseong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi! Sum is a big café near Namhansanseong where I could enjoy tea time in such a peaceful, nature-filled atmosphere! Let's get into the detailed review now ✨

Café Sum is located at 108-11 Ojeon-gil, Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. Hours are Mon–Fri 10:00–20:30 and Sat–Sun 10:00–21:30, with last order 30 minutes before closing. Parking is available.

Café Sum's exterior and interior: an easy stop on a drive

Ta-da! I arrived at Café Sum, a great stop while enjoying a drive around Namhansanseong! The peaceful atmosphere and stylish exterior caught my eye right away, haha.

There's parking right in front of the café, so I parked comfortably and headed inside.

Stepping inside, the cool floor-to-ceiling windows and clean white-toned atmosphere caught my eye. You can take in the natural scenery through the huge windows, and the tidy vibe was really nice. Just being at the café already lifted my mood, haha. In the open, airy space I could vividly see the forest and trees, which felt so refreshing. There's seating on the 1st floor, 2nd floor, and at tables, so it was convenient to be able to sit wherever I preferred!

Café Sum in Namhansanseong had a wide variety of baked goods ready, haha. As a bread lover, there was no way I could just walk past!

So many delicious-looking breads, right? There were really so many kinds! I want this~ I want that too~ it was hard to decide with the urge to try everything, haha. Since I'd already eaten a meal before visiting that day, I picked things a bit more suited to tea time — a chocolate eclair, almond kouign-amann, and Earl Grey scone, haha. They look great as dessert, don't they~!

And for drinks, I ordered a decaf Americano and a chamomile tea!

Ta-da!! After a short wait, out came these beautifully presented breads and drinks, haha. The pastries looked pretty, the café atmosphere was great, and I felt so good, haha. You can probably feel the peaceful, natural vibe just from the photos~

How were Café Sum's decaf Americano and chamomile tea?

Café Sum's chamomile tea was steeped deeply, warm, fragrant, and delicious! The decaf Americano tasted so good I couldn't tell any difference from regular coffee at all! It went perfectly with the bakery items~~

Chocolate eclair at Café Sum

The first thing I picked was the chocolate eclair! I'd been craving an eclair lately, and there it was right in front of me, so I grabbed it right away. The chocolate filling inside was sweet and soft, and it paired beautifully with a sip of decaf Americano! I really love this kind of dessert time~~

Earl Grey scone at Café Sum

The second thing I picked was the Earl Grey scone! You see scones often, but an Earl Grey scone is surprisingly hard to come by sometimes~ I could really sense the Earl Grey flavor throughout, so I picked it up without hesitation. As you can see in the photo, it was packed with Earl Grey for great flavor, and the taste was light rather than heavy — a dessert with real depth of flavor!

Almond kouign-amann at Café Sum

The last thing I picked was the popular bakery item, almond kouign-amann! The soft, sweet flavor that's characteristic of kouign-amann won me over instantly! I loved how it melted in my mouth so softly, haha. With the almonds mixed in, it also had a nice chew and a light, clean taste! Everything I had that day was delicious, so I want to try the other bakery items next time too, haha. And since the decaf Americano I had that day was rich and tasty, I'd like to try a latte, my personal favorite, next time~!

And most of all, since I love nature, I thought I'd like to sit in the outdoor seating next time, haha. Just looking at it made me feel so refreshed!

Café Sum in Namhansanseong was great for stopping by during a drive and enjoying tea time. The nature-filled atmosphere and stylish interior really caught my eye! I love driving on nice days~ and I'd definitely like to come back again whenever I want to refresh my mood!
