Eel restaurant in Magok, Seoul with baby chairs and umaki: Kikukawa
In short
Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa One Grove Branch is an eel rice bowl restaurant on the 1st floor of One Grove Building A by Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Visiting with a 32-month-old, the writer ordered hitsumabushi for 38,000 won, mentaiko hitsumabushi for 48,000 won and umaki (rolled eel omelet) for 8,000 won for 2 pieces, and the baby chairs and wide gaps between tables made the meal relaxed. With a young child along, the soft, moist umaki at Kikukawa was the best fit.

We had some errands to run at One Grove in Magok with the family over the weekend, so we stopped by Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa, a well-known eel rice bowl spot in Magok's One Grove!

Finding the entrance on the 1st floor of One Grove Building A

Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa One Grove Branch is located on the 1st floor of One Grove Building A. One Grove has Buildings A, B, C, and D, so make sure — really!!! — to park near Building A and head there.
For the elevator, open the glass door made of full-panel glass and go in! I thought that wasn't the entrance at first, haha.

After getting off the elevator, turn left and go straight — there's a sign posted there.

Good seating and interior for dining with a child

Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa One Grove Branch has a variety of seating, from 2-person tables to group seating, so it seemed suitable both for a casual meal and for a gathering.

At the entrance, there were food models and waiting seats set up.

You could see the kitchen through the glass window, so it was nice to be able to check the cooking process!

Once you sit down, they bring you cold water, and you order at the kiosk.
Hitsumabushi and mentaiko hitsumabushi: the order to eat them in

The food really came out fast! (Felt like about 5 minutes..?)
Hitsumabushi has 2/3 of an eel over rice, while mentaiko hitsumabushi has 2/3 of an eel plus a whole piece of mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe) on top.

The way to enjoy it: 1. Taste it as is, 2. Add toppings, 3. Pour dashi broth over the eel, rice, and toppings and enjoy it as ochazuke!
Enjoying the original flavor

The soft eel with its sweet-savory sauce went so well with the white rice! You can ask for more rice if you run out — the bowl is deeper than it looks, so there's actually a good amount of rice under the eel. If you feel like you need more sauce,

each table has extra sauce you can add.
Adding toppings

Put gim (seaweed), wasabi, and green onion on top of the rice and eel, and take a big bite~

This combination was so good that I kept eating it this way! Haha
If it feels a bit rich, pair it with the side dishes. The green side dish in the middle tasted like gungchae (a leafy vegetable) and was refreshing, so it went well with the eel.
Pouring in dashi broth
Scoop some rice and eel into the bowl, top with the toppings, then pour the dashi broth over it~ Eating it moist like this felt quite different from just eating the toppings on top.
This time I tried the mentaiko from my husband's mentaiko hitsumabushi! Mixed into the rice and eaten in a bite. It wasn't too salty, so it went well with the eel too!
Even our 32-month-old ate the umaki well
Umaki (rolled egg omelet with eel) comes in 2 pieces for 8,000 won. Inside the moist rolled omelet are big chunks of eel! It was so soft and moist that even our 32-month-old ate it really well! If you're going with a child, I recommend the umaki.
Overall review
- All the staff were very kind
- The tables were spaced widely apart and the interior was spacious, so we could eat comfortably even with a child
- With private rooms available, it would also be a great spot for family gatherings or business meetings
- They use 300g eel, the most flavorful size, so you can enjoy a soft, thick eel rice bowl

If you're looking for a great gathering spot for eel near Magok Station, definitely try Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa One Grove Branch!✨️
