Jeju restaurant for sous-vide black pork steak: Pyeongdae Alhi
In short
Pyeongdae Alhi is a Western-style restaurant in Gujwa-eup, Jeju. On the last day of our trip, we enjoyed its sous-vide set with black pork steak, spicy Hallasan pasta, and a shrimp-loaded salad. Verdict: a satisfying stop for a relaxed meal amid green fields.

On our final day, we planned a route that started around Seongsan in Jeju and headed toward the airport, stopping at several places whenever the timing and route worked out.^^ For lunch that day, we stopped by Pyeongdae Alhi (평대앓이), a great restaurant in Gujwa-eup, and were so satisfied.
Pyeongdae Alhi location, parking, and hours

We stopped at this Gujwa-eup restaurant after a leisurely drive past the surrounding trees and fields. It is not in a crowded cluster of tourist complexes, so it was pleasantly quiet.
The building sits slightly back from the road, so the entrance felt a little narrow, but there was plenty of room in front of the restaurant. The parking lot was spacious too.
It opens at 8 a.m., so breakfast is available too, which I thought was great. There are several service periods—breakfast from 08:00 to 11:00, lunch from 11:30 to 15:00, a break from 15:00 to 17:00, and dinner from 17:00 to 20:00—but it is a one-chef restaurant and seemed quite busy, so I recommend making a reservation before visiting.
European-style interior and photo spots

The moment we entered this Gujwa-eup restaurant, our reaction was, “Hmm—what is this place?” ^^

It has such a pretty, exotic atmosphere. The European-feeling interior, plus the green view through the windows, made the meal feel lovely from start to finish.

There are beautifully arranged photo spots throughout, so it is nice to take pictures before the food arrives.

The space even had a bit of a gallery-like feel rather than simply feeling like a restaurant.
What comes with the sous-vide set?

The menu at this Gujwa-eup restaurant is Western-style, but it centers on black pork and sweet shrimp, giving the dishes a distinctly Jeju character. There was also sweet shrimp sashimi available à la carte, as well as a sweet shrimp kase set for trying sweet shrimp in different ways. We were not especially in the mood for raw shrimp, so we ordered the sous-vide set at the top of the menu.

The sous-vide set includes sous-vide black pork tenderloin steak, Hallasan pasta, Alhi salad, and a drink or alcohol.

What surprised me as soon as the food came out was how generous the portions were. It was not even Korean food, yet it felt plentiful and as though they had served everything very generously, haha.

Tender, juicy black pork tenderloin steak
The steak was black pork cooked sous-vide, so it was tender and juicy. It came with sauce and a separate serving of grilled vegetables, which made for a lovely combination. There were quite a lot of grilled vegetables too—almost enough to feel like a separate salad.

Eating the steak with the generous grilled vegetables meant it went down easily without becoming too rich. I also spread on the prettily presented guacamole, and it was delicious.^^

A note on the heat in the Hallasan pasta
The Hallasan pasta was fun because the plate itself was shaped like a volcanic crater. This pasta was quite spicy—more than it looked. Keep that in mind if you are eating with children or are not good with spicy food. I loved the kick and enjoyed it very much. The sweet shrimp had been split in half and added in an easy-to-eat way, so I only had to lift it out with my fork and eat it.

Alhi salad loaded with shrimp
The Alhi salad was truly packed with shrimp. It had plenty of vegetables too, but the shrimp were added so generously that I thought the salad alone would make for a quite filling meal. The dressing was tasty as well, and it went beautifully with the vegetables and shrimp together.

For our drink, we chose a hallabong (Jeju citrus) ade. Its fresh flavor was lovely, but I especially loved how beautiful it looked.
This was a wonderful Gujwa-eup restaurant where we enjoyed delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere and came away feeling refreshed.
