In short
Halal Steaks is a halal food restaurant near Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. I ordered a gyro platter and gyro sandwich to go, and both were overflowing with meat, vegetables, and sauces. Verdict: Halal Steaks is a hearty pick for an international-style meal in Hongdae.

Halal gyros I found in Hongdae
Today, I’m introducing a great halal food spot I found in Hongdae!
I found the gyro sandwich of my life, seriously... I don’t think I can eat another sandwich after this 😳 The second I tore open the pita bread, meat came tumbling out—it was a true meat bomb. I couldn’t believe this quality was in Hongdae! That’s “Halal Steaks.”

It’s right next to Harry Potter-themed 943 Café!!

A casual space and halal certification
It’s a casual space decorated with neon signs and colorful chairs 🤗. Great for groups, great on your own too!! When we visited, delivery-order notifications were going off nonstop hahaha.

There was even a halal certificate hanging inside, so I felt I could eat here with confidence.

The country-of-origin board was displayed carefully too, so you can check where every ingredient comes from (Australian beef, New Zealand lamb, and so on).

A gyro sandwich packed with meat and sauce
Gyro sandwich

The very first bite tasted like Greece 🇬🇷... It was even better than the souvlaki I had in Greece ㅜㅜ So much sauce, meat, and vegetables—they don’t skimp on ingredients.. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Is this amount of meat for real? Seriously generous 😳 My protein~~~ The slightly spicy sauce was exactly my taste..

This one was full of meat too~~ ❤️ Protein ❤️❤️❤️
It’s great with white sauce and hot sauce, however you like them.

Lots of lettuce, tomato, and cheesy rice, and the vegetables were fresh too 👍👍👍

More than half of it is meat hahahaha 🥩🐑
Both dishes had an incredible amount of meat, but I was surprised there was zero gamey smell! Maybe because it’s halal-certified, but the meat preparation definitely seemed different.
The platter’s charm is how filling it is: mix the meat, rice, vegetables, and pita bread with white sauce and hot sauce, and everything is in one bowl. The gyro sandwich tastes like Greek souvlaki the moment you bite into it! The pita bread was crammed with meat, vegetables, and sauce, so I was really satisfied 🥙
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for halal food in Hongdae, or anyone wanting to try an international-style menu! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
