Jeju hanwoo restaurant: huge yukhoe bibimbap at Dolgyeok Hanwoo

In short

Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant in Yeon-dong, Jeju, about 10 minutes by car from Jeju Airport. For a final Jeju meal, I had garlic-marinated galbisal, hanging tender and a 15,000 won yukhoe bibimbap that felt like three servings. A satisfying airport-side beef meal.

On the last day of my Jeju trip, I was wondering where to have my final meal before heading to the airport. I’d already had black pork twice, so I thought I should have beef for the last meal. While looking for a hanwoo restaurant near Jeju Airport, I visited Dolgyeok Hanwoo.

I had a generous hanwoo meal and wrapped up my Jeju trip’s final meal nicely.

Where is Dolgyeok Hanwoo, and where can you park?

Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a 10-minute drive from Jeju Airport. Since we visited on a weekday, there was a space in front of the restaurant building. If it’s full, you can use the nearby Sinjeju Public Parking Lot.

A Korean-style sign and a clean dining room

When I arrived, the sign immediately caught my eye with its distinctly Korean feel, fitting for a hanwoo restaurant.

Inside, the restaurant was really clean and comfortable,

with both square tables and round tables that have a pocha (Korean pub) feel, so you can choose the kind of seat you like.

They also trim the hanwoo themselves in an open space, and even at a glance, the meat quality looked so good.

Garlic galbisal and hanging tender: what we ordered

Dolgyeok Hanwoo menu for hanwoo and meal dishes

At Dolgyeok Hanwoo, you can order a range of hanwoo cuts, and they also have cubed black-pork neck, which is an option when you feel like pork. There were plenty of meal options too, including yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), yukhoe bibimbap, gat kimchi bibim guksu (mustard-leaf kimchi mixed noodles), doenjang sulbap (soybean-paste rice soup), and Jjapagetti.

Guide to enjoying hanwoo deliciously

They also gave us instructions on how to enjoy the beef alongside the menu, so I read them carefully haha. We were curious about the garlic-marinated galbisal, so we ordered two servings of garlic galbisal (₩27,000), one serving of the hanwoo special cut (₩32,000), and hanwoo garlic yukhoe bibimbap (₩15,000).

By the way, if you join the Naver Review Event or Google Review Event, you get a soft drink or one bottle of alcohol, so definitely give it a try!

What the garlic galbisal and hanging tender were like

First, they brought seasoned lettuce, kimchi, seasoned cucumber, pickled radish, and sauces to go with the meat.

Along with salt and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), there were wasabi, whole-grain mustard, and Dolgyeok Hanwoo’s own Dolgyeok sashimi sauce.

Seaweed soup came with the meal too, made with 1++ hanwoo brisket. The seaweed soup has unlimited refills, so you can keep having it!

Finally, the meat arrived. A little dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statue) was sitting on top, which felt very Jeju and was so cute haha.

True to hanwoo, the color and marbling were incredible, and the garlic galbisal had loads of garlic on top, just as its name suggests. The hanwoo special cut was prepared as hanging tender.

They said the special cut is best at about 80% cooked, and the garlic galbisal at around 90% cooked.

When I grilled it myself, it cooked faster than I expected. Since the garlic galbisal is marinated, I recommend putting it on the grill a little at a time so it doesn’t burn.

Some garlic can fall through the grill while the garlic galbisal cooks, but they brought extra garlic sauce separately so I could have it with the meat.

As instructed, I put a little Dolgyeok sashimi sauce and whole-grain mustard on the hanging tender, then dipped it in the garlic chili soy sauce.

A piece of hanging tender with sauces

As you’d expect from hanwoo, it was tender and soft, with a texture that just melted in my mouth. 👍🏻

I tried the garlic galbisal as it was, and it was full of juices with such delicious savory flavor from the marinade.

The garlic aroma went really well with the rich, nutty flavor of the hanwoo.

There were so many sauces that it was fun trying different combinations.

The surprisingly huge hanwoo garlic yukhoe bibimbap

I was still a little hungry after the meat, so I added one hanwoo garlic yukhoe bibimbap. When it came out, I was startled by the size. 🫢

I definitely ordered just one, but it looked like three servings, seriously haha. A staff member mixed it for us, and once it was all mixed, it somehow looked even bigger.

The special gochujang (Korean red chili paste) seasoning came through strongly, and there was lots of garlic too, giving this addictive yukhoe bibimbap a pleasantly sharp kick.

Gujwa carrot juice served as an after-meal refresher

Afterward, they gave us Gujwa carrot juice, which made for a refreshing finish haha.

A final hanwoo meal before Jeju Airport

I was so happy with this as my last meal before going to Jeju Airport. I think it would also be great as your first meal after arriving at the airport.

The restaurant is spacious and clean, so it would be good for group gatherings or work dinners too. The hanwoo was tender and high quality, and especially, you really have to try the yukhoe bibimbap because the portion is huge. If you want hanwoo on your Jeju trip, give it a visit!
