Yeouido Korean restaurant for grilled mackerel sets: Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido
In short
Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido is a Korean restaurant in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, serving charcoal-oven grilled fish and Korean set meals. I had the grilled mackerel set and handmade tteokgalbi set, plus refillable side dishes, self-bar tteokbokki, and nurungji. Verdict: a satisfying, hearty meal when you want grilled fish with tteokgalbi.

Filling up on Korean food in Yeouido before my trip
The week before my vacation had me so excited 🌴 Since I probably would not get much Korean food once I got to Hawaii, I went looking for a Yeouido Korean restaurant where I could really fill up beforehand.

As its name suggests, Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido is known for fish grilled in a charcoal oven at over 500°C, crisp outside and tender inside! It is a clean, comfortable grilled-fish specialist with a self-service bar, so it is great for a hearty, healthy meal when grilling fish at home feels like too much—or for a family meal or date.
A Yeouido restaurant with easy parking and group dining
Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido is on B1 of the Yeouido Lotte Castle Ivy building, so parking is very easy 👍🏻 Get off on B1 and you will find it without any trouble.
It is spacious and comfortable, with a variety of table arrangements! There is group seating too, making it perfect for dining with a crowd.

Good choices even for companions who do not eat fish
As you would expect from a grilled-fish specialist, there are plenty of fish dishes: grilled mackerel, Atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel, hairtail, dried yellow corvina, braised black hairtail, and fish roe stew.
Grilled fish is the main event, but do not worry if someone in your group hates fish! There are assorted dishes and set options including spicy pork, gabri bossam (boiled pork), tteokgalbi, and even pizza, so everyone can be happy haha.

You can also add dishes à la carte, even without ordering a set meal!
A self-service bar with tteokbokki and nurungji
There is a self-service bar, and first of all, it has tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and nurungji (scorched rice)! Both were delicious, so please make sure you try them haha.

The japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and kimchi dishes are all refillable too 😚

The neatly arranged full table is the kind of spread any Korean person cannot help but love!
The refillable side dishes from the self-service bar.. ❤️ Every single one pairs perfectly with grilled fish. I was so hungry that I finished one plate of japchae as soon as we started and immediately got a refill—no secret there 🤫
Oh, if you always dip grilled fish in soy sauce like I do, there is soy sauce and mini fresh wasabi at the table, so dip away to your heart’s content 😚

Charcoal-oven mackerel that flakes apart tenderly
Golden and so appetizing—one look and you can tell this fish has just come out of a charcoal oven 🔥🐟
It looked crisp on the outside, but the moment I touched it with my chopsticks, the flesh just slipped away from the bone. So tender!

Scoop up a spoonful of rice and top it with the fish—it is seriously sooo good! I finished a whole bowl of rice in no time.
The siraegi-guk (dried radish-leaf soup) that comes with it is a fantastic match too. It has been my favorite soup since childhood, but it is surprisingly hard to find at restaurants. Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang gives you siraegi as its standard soup, which I loved even more. It tasted great too 🩵
Since we ordered grilled fish for one set, we tried the handmade tteokgalbi for the other haha.

Whether you choose tteokgalbi or grilled fish, the set meals come with ssam (wrap vegetables) like this too 🥬

You get two thick pieces of tteokgalbi. They are pleasantly chewy, tender, and delicious, so I recommend them as a special extra alongside the grilled mackerel.

Wrap it with the ssamjang (savory soybean paste) that comes with it, and wow, it is so good.

The self-bar tteokbokki, which I ate without much expectation, was also much tastier than I thought. Its gentle heat was incredibly addictive. I left Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido very satisfied—recommended for a Yeouido office-worker lunch or Korean food near Saetgang Station ❤️
