Ansan family restaurant where kids feed guinea pigs: Todamok

We went to Todamok in Ansan for lunch with the kids. You can eat everything from kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) to bossam (boiled pork wraps) in one sitting, and after the meal there's a small animal farm where the kids can feed rabbits and guinea pigs — great for a family visit. Parking and the yard at Todamok, where the kids stopped first

Todamok feels like a really well-kept garden. The parking area in front of the restaurant is quite spacious.

There was a wide wooden bench in front of the store, and the lawn was so well maintained that the kids loved it.

They were surprised there were goldfish — there were lots of fish inside the restaurant too.

There's an animal farm off to the side.

We took a quick peek at the rabbits and told them we'd come back after eating.

The exterior has a slightly hanok (traditional Korean house) feel, with lots of trees around, so it felt more like a lunch trip out to the countryside than a restaurant in the middle of the city. We went in without a worry haha.

What is the inside of Todamok like?

As soon as you step inside Todamok, you see a little waterfall-like space, and the kids were amazed. It's decorated all in green, so we spent a while just looking around.

There are fish tanks all over the place, so you can watch fish before and after the meal — good for a family lunch in Seonbu-dong.

The inside is spacious and really pretty. The green view outside the window comes right in.

There were private room-style tables further inside, and quite a lot of seating in the middle area too.

There were wooden high chairs, and a self-serve corner on one side with unlimited refills of extra side dishes and rice.

Our kid loved the pretty view outside so much that we sat by the window.

Every table has an ordering tablet.

What we ordered at Todamok and what it cost

Todamok's signature dishes are chicken kalguksu and roe-and-milt kalguksu, plus chogye guksu (cold noodle soup) as a summer menu item. With set menus and various sides, it's fine to bring kids here.

We ordered the kalguksu + bossam set for two (₩39,000), choosing one roe-and-milt kalguksu and one chicken kalguksu. We also added half-and-half mandu (dumplings, ₩7,000) for the kids. One odd thing: you can't order meat mandu on its own.

Chicken kalguksu at Todamok

A mild chicken kalguksu the kids ate well. It had a clear broth with chicken, egg garnish, and thick noodles.

The broth wasn't strong-flavored — it was on the mild side, so it was easy even for adults to eat, and seasoned just right.

They sprinkle pepper on top. Picking a menu item that works for everyone when eating Korean food in Seonbu-dong, Ansan with kids is always a bit of a worry, but the chicken kalguksu worked for everyone.

My second kid practically had their nose in the bowl haha.

The noodles had a nice chewiness, and the kimchi went well with the kalguksu too.

Roe-and-milt kalguksu at Todamok

A spicy roe-and-milt kalguksu. I was curious since it was my first time trying it.

In a red broth with fish roe and milt, topped with minari (water dropwort) — completely different from the chicken kalguksu.

The broth was spicy but not to the point of being overwhelming — think of it as al-tang (roe soup) with kalguksu noodles in it, and that's about right.

There was fun in fishing out the roe and milt to eat. The roe pieces were especially big, and as a roe lover, I ate well.

There's a good amount of roe and milt. It was nice to alternate between the mild chicken kalguksu and the spicy roe-and-milt kalguksu. When you think of kalguksu in Ansan, bajirak (clam) kalguksu usually comes to mind first, so this roe-and-milt version felt different.

The small bossam in the set

The bossam (boiled pork wraps) that came with the set was better than expected. Since it was just part of the set, I didn't expect much, but the meat was really tender.

Was that seasoned pollack skate mix? This was genuinely delicious.

We ate through it quickly and wanted a refill later, but refills weren't available — disappointing. I should've paced myself haha.

The meat oddly had more fat than lean cuts, which probably made it so moist and tender. But it wasn't greasy at all.

A piece of bossam on cabbage, topped with the seasoned sauce and the accompanying mix — so good.

As for the bossam, haha, our wrap-loving first kid basically ate it all. If we'd only had the kalguksu it might have felt a little light, but eating bossam alongside made the meal feel hearty and filling. Recommend the set menu.

Half-and-half mandu (7,000 won)

Meat and kimchi mandu (dumplings), half and half. We ordered it extra for the kids — ah, it was a shame you couldn't order meat mandu alone. Nothing especially special about the flavor, but fine as a side with kalguksu.

The kids each ate a meat mandu but wouldn't touch the kimchi ones, saying they were spicy haha.

Candy and drinks after the meal

After the meal, they gave the kids a handful of candy, which they loved. Honestly I liked it too haha.

We stepped outside and had a coffee and an iced tea!

Feeding the rabbits and guinea pigs, the main event for the kids

The meal wasn't the end at Todamok. Honestly, if you're coming with kids, this might be the most important part of the visit haha. There's a small animal farm outside where you can feed the rabbits and guinea pigs yourself.

Our kids each grabbed a handful of feed and were totally absorbed in the rabbits and guinea pigs. It was better kept than I expected — no smell, and the enclosures were clean.

I kept an eye out in case they bit, but since they're raised by hand, they were as gentle as puppies.

Our youngest especially loved this first-time experience with rabbits and guinea pigs — even feeding them was fascinating and fun.

Instead of leaving right after eating, the kids got to see the animals and feed them, which made the whole thing feel like an outing. Watching fish, seeing the indoor waterfall, feeding the animals — with three kids, just getting through a meal is chaotic enough, so having these extra things to see was really nice.
