I heard there was a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant near Daejaengi Village in Seonbu-dong, Ansan with easy parking and a great menu, so I went to check out Todamok. It turned out to be a great spot for a hearty lunch set, and the wide parking lot made it easy to visit by car.

I tried the mild chicken kalguksu, the spicy roe-and-milt kalguksu, and a golden-brown potato pancake all together. If you're looking for a lunch spot in Seonbu-dong or a kalguksu restaurant with easy parking to visit with family, I'd recommend this place.

Where is Todamok in Daejaengi Village, and how is the parking?
Todamok in Seonbu-dong, Ansan sits right next to the Daejaengi Village Happy Learning Center. The first thing you notice arriving at Todamok is the wide parking lot.

There's a generous gravel parking area in front of the restaurant, so it looked easy to park even during lunch hour.

When you're eating out in Ansan with family or parents, parking matters as much as the food, and in that sense Todamok's accessibility was pretty good.

Inside Todamok: private room and group seating for 20
Once inside Todamok, the space was much bigger than I expected from the outside.

There were plenty of tables with generous spacing between seats, so it seemed comfortable even for families or larger groups.

There's room seating available too, with group seating for up to 20 people.
The self-service bar: free side dishes and rice
The self-service bar at Todamok was well stocked — not just side dishes but unlimited rice too.

What comes in the 35,000 won lunch set for two
What we ordered that day was the two-person kalguksu and potato pancake lunch set, ₩35,000.

The set comes with two bowls (roe-and-milt kalguksu, chicken kalguksu) plus a hefty potato pancake, making it a hearty lunch for two. We picked one mild chicken kalguksu and one spicy roe-and-milt kalguksu so we could each try a different flavor.

The side dishes that came with the kalguksu were clean and well matched. The napa cabbage kimchi was fermented just enough to keep a crisp texture, and laying a piece on top of the noodles added a spicy kick to the mild broth that worked really well.

Chicken kalguksu: the mild, clean-tasting bowl
The chicken kalguksu came in a milky, clear broth with noodles and chicken, topped with yellow egg strips. Tasting the broth, it leaned clean and mild rather than salty or sharp.

There was a subtle, savory depth to the chicken broth without being heavy, so my spoon kept going back for more, and the thick noodles paired well with the soup.

For anyone who can't handle spicy food, or visiting with kids, the chicken kalguksu was a perfect choice.

Roe and milt kalguksu: the spicy, deeper bowl
On the other hand, the roe-and-milt kalguksu looked properly spicy just from the color of the broth.

Tasting it, it wasn't just spicy — the broth was spicy and rich at the same time, and fishing out the fish roe and milt tucked among the noodles was part of the fun.

The bouncy roe and soft milt had a different texture from the kalguksu noodles, so there was a lot of textural variety in a single bowl. If you like a spicy broth, the roe-and-milt kalguksu will probably suit your taste more than the chicken version.

The potato pancake at Todamok
The potato pancake was a decent size, with edges grilled crispy. The center was moist and chewy.

The clean, nutty potato flavor came through even eaten plain, but after a bite of the spicy roe-and-milt kalguksu, a piece of the pancake softened the heat nicely — the combination was especially good. If ordering just the kalguksu feels like not enough, adding the potato pancake is a good call.

Finishing the meal with rice in the broth
The broth was so rich that I wanted to mix in rice. The broth had good depth and savoriness, so after eating some of the noodles, I naturally wanted to add rice.

In the end I added a bit of rice, and as the rich broth soaked into the grains, it made for a satisfying finish.
