There really seem to be so many cafés and bakery cafés clustered around Gojan-dong. I went to Degree Cafe not long ago and was genuinely amazed by the bread and coffee there, but right nearby is a bakery café that surpasses even that place. I was surprised all over again.

Usually a café just needs good coffee or drinks, but here the taste was such that you could call it a proper bakery. Each item was carefully packaged and displayed. What is the space and atmosphere like at Flowerpot Cafe?

The moment you step into Flowerpot Cafe, your sense of smell is hit — by the smell of bread. If they were just bringing in bread from elsewhere, there's no way it would smell this fragrant.

The space was wide and comfortable, good for enjoying brunch, dessert, or coffee at a leisurely pace. The seating worked well for family gatherings, meeting friends, dates, or even sitting quietly alone.

Since they knead dough starting every dawn and bake it fresh on site, the moment you walk in the fragrant bread smell greets you first, and it makes you want to order coffee without even thinking. It was a great first impression, the kind that lifts your mood through smell alone — very fitting for a bakery café.

There were also so many kinds of bread. As I picked this and that, it felt like I was about to eat every bread they sell — I kept putting things back and taking them again, and in the end my wife and child and I settled on the ones we thought they'd like most.

There were many types of bread you don't usually see at a bakery café. Even the toast bread and scones felt out of the ordinary.

Next time I'll have to try all the breads I haven't gotten to yet. After one bite, I thought, "Ah, this is just a proven, trustworthy bakery café!"

Baked in-house: they knead the dough carefully starting every dawn and bake a variety of breads right on site. Being able to taste the flavor of freshly baked bread no matter when you visit was the biggest difference from other cafés.

An easygoing sweetness: overall the bread wasn't too sweet, so it was easy to eat without feeling weighed down. Thanks to the mild sweetness, we could eat several kinds together without getting sick of it.

What we ordered: red bean bread, mango Wakppu salt bread and nurungji bread

We ordered red bean bread, mango Wakppu salt bread, nurungji (scorched rice) bread, oatmeal cookies, and watermelon juice. Picking the menu was really hard, because I wanted to try everything.

Tasting each bread one by one, the first thing I noticed was the unassuming sweetness. The red bean bread let the natural flavor of the red beans shine, so it didn't feel heavy.

The mango Wakppu salt bread balanced saltiness and the mango's tartness nicely.

The nurungji bread had a subtle, nutty flavor, and the oatmeal cookies were a fun snack with an interesting chewy texture. Paired with the cool watermelon juice, the whole combination worked really well together.

Above all, the fragrant bread smell that hit us the moment we walked in raised our overall satisfaction even further.
