Carrot duck aglio olio at a Yeonnam-dong restaurant: Hôtel de Couture

In short

Hôtel de Couture is a Western-style restaurant on the 1.5th floor of a brick building in Yeonnam-dong, Seoul, a 10-minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 3. On a Friday at 2pm there was no wait, and two people shared carrot duck aglio olio (18,000 won) and egg in hell (18,000 won) — the duck had no gamey smell, and the crisp sweetness of the carrot was the real kick. Two dishes were generous enough to leave two people completely full, making Hôtel de Couture an easy pick for a date or a meal with friends.

Yeonnam-dong has so many Western-style restaurants..! But among them I found one with a standout exotic vibe and gorgeous plating 🍝 🤎 It was exactly the kind of date spot women love — here's my review of Hôtel de Couture, a Western restaurant in Yeonnam-dong ♡⃜

Hôtel de Couture, a hot spot in Yeonnam-dong, is only 10 minutes from Hongik University Station Exit 3, so it's easy to reach. It's in an atmospheric brick building, so even the exterior gives off a good vibe ⋆ ˚。⋆ ྀི ⋆ ˚。⋆

Friday 2pm at Hôtel de Couture: was there a wait?

You get to Hôtel de Couture by walking up a staircase to the second floor. We visited around 2pm on a Friday and luckily there was no wait, but I heard the line can fill up the whole staircase on weekends, so keep that in mind ❗

Entrance signage at Hôtel de Couture

Apparently a pretty famous spot in Yeonnam-dong called 'Hey Georgie' is actually the second restaurant run by the same team behind Hôtel de Couture! I've been there once too and remember it being delicious, so if the wait here is too long, heading to Hey Georgie instead might not be a bad move......?

Inside Hôtel de Couture: seating and atmosphere

The warm, sentimental mood from the exterior carries all the way inside. When a too-formal place feels like too much, but a loud, crowded one isn't what you want either, a cozy Western restaurant like this is exactly the right call 🥺

Cozy interior decor at Hôtel de Couture

Inside there are about 10 tables for four, spaced well apart, so you can chat comfortably while you eat 🍽️ I also loved the not-too-bright, cozy lighting — exactly my taste.

The window table overlooking the Yeonnam-dong alley 🪑 — I loved this spot so much, but of course pretty seats are popular ~~~,, Couples come here on dates a lot, but so do groups of women! This place is designed to win women's hearts, seriously,,

We sat in a slightly tucked-away corner by the window, with a painting on the wall that gave it a European mansion-hotel kind of feel,, the romantic mood was so my type ...! 🥀

Neatly set tableware at Hôtel de Couture

The tableware comes out very neatly set 🍽️ and overall the place felt clean and tidy, which I loved haha

What we ordered at Hôtel de Couture and what it cost

  • Carrot duck aglio olio / ₩18,000 🥕
  • Egg in hell / ₩18,000 🍝

Carrot duck aglio olio, 18,000 won

Hôtel de Couture's carrot duck aglio olio is ₩18,000 — pasta topped with sautéed carrot. I don't normally eat duck, but for some reason the combo of aglio olio + carrot + duck sounded so fresh..! The name alone made me curious about the ingredients, so I ordered it right away ♡⃜

Carrot duck aglio olio topped with cheese

Even I, who doesn't usually eat duck, could eat this without any resistance — there was no gamey smell at all, and the well-cooked duck brought a clean umami that paired perfectly with aglio olio's signature garlic aroma! The noodles were cooked just right and chewy, and the cheese sprinkled on top was the perfect finish ... 🤍

But the real kick of this aglio olio is the carrot,, 🥕🥕🥕🥕 the sautéed carrot kept its crisp texture while giving off a subtle sweetness that blended so well with the salty flavor of the aglio olio — the kind of taste that keeps you reaching for more,,

Egg in hell, 18,000 won, with three soft-boiled eggs

Hôtel de Couture's egg in hell is ₩18,000 and comes with three soft-boiled eggs. I don't usually order egg in hell, but I somehow wanted it this time! Half excited, half worried — and it turned out to be a total win..

Egg in hell with three soft-boiled eggs at Hôtel de Couture

When you lightly break up the soft-boiled egg and eat it with the sauce, the nutty richness of the yolk blends so well with the tomato sauce — so good 🥺

Bread comes served alongside the egg in hell, and it's loaded with a ton of cheese !!!

Cheesy toast being dipped into the egg in hell

Instead of eating the toast plain, dip it into the pasta or the egg in hell and pile the fillings on top for an even better bite ♪( ´▽`)♫ The combo of egg in hell with cheesy toast is ridiculously good!

Two dishes for two people: is it enough food?

At Hôtel de Couture, ordering two dishes between two people is plenty — the portions are generous. The two of us ate until we were stuffed, and overall the amount was surprisingly large ..!!! You're not supposed to expect big portions at Western restaurants, but here they really deliver, super satisfying,, 🫶🏻

On the way out after paying, there were even after-dinner candies thoughtfully set out to cleanse the palate! 🍬‧₊

Who should eat at Hôtel de Couture in Yeonnam-dong?

Hôtel de Couture, with its cozy atmosphere, was perfect for a date or a hangout with friends. It feels like the kind of Yeonnam-dong restaurant that works for brunch during the day and a glass of wine in the evening •• If you're looking for a Western restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend this one!
