Ulsan haejangguk restaurant with large pork bulgogi: Boksan Haejang

In short

Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch is a haejangguk (hangover soup) and yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) Korean restaurant in Sinjeong-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan, right beside Jungang Hospital on Munsu-ro. A parent and son ordered one regular yukhoe bibimbap (12,000 won) and one large Boksan pork bulgogi (10,000 won), piled the meat onto rice with gim jaban (seasoned seaweed flakes) and cleared both plates, and the bibimbap arrived with haejangguk broth alongside. There is a wait at weekday lunch, but Boksan Haejang proved a good-value lunch near Gongeoptap.

My son and I were out on a little date and he said he wanted pork bulgogi, so off we went to Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch haha 😆 (honestly I really wanted yukhoe bibimbap too)

Where is Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch, and is there parking?

Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch is at 476 Munsu-ro, 1st floor, in Sinjeong-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan, with parking right in front of the store. Because the parking lot is right there, it's hard to get a pretty shot of the exterior 😂

After we finished eating we could also use the coffee vending machine. Watch the step down at the door, and let's head in ☺️

Inside Boksan Haejang: seating and what's there for kids

Boksan Haejang Ulsan Sinjeong Branch is decorated neatly with little props, and the whole interior has kind of a warm feeling ☀️

They have a baby chair, and the bathroom is clean too, though it isn't separated by gender.

How long is the weekday lunch wait at Boksan Haejang?

It was a bit past 1pm on a weekday and customers kept streaming in nonstop. Ulsan Jungang Hospital is right next door, so a lot of customers came straight from the hospital too. It's a real hit with the hospital crowd 👍

Dining hall tables full of weekday lunch customers

4 tables for 4, 3 tables for 2. There can be a bit of a wait. Since we came at weekday lunchtime, every table was full and we waited a bit before getting seated.

I really liked our table — you could see the view out the window 😍

Boksan Haejang menu and prices

Apparently Boksan Haejang runs on a direct-supply system with its own affiliated Boksan Meat, Boksan Meat Hall, and Boksan Pork Cutlet, which is how they can serve generous portions at reasonable prices 👍 That's probably why we get to eat such good food for such fair prices 👏🏻

Hair ties set out for customers at the table

They had all kinds of seasoning powders and even hair ties on the table.

Side dishes: pickled onion, kkakdugi and seasoned radish

The basic side dish plate got set down. The pickled onion isn't salty at all and is so good.

Well-fermented kkakdugi side dish

The kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) was just right too — my hand kept going back for more~

Mildly seasoned radish salad side dish

The radish salad was mild but I kept craving it ☺️

Full spread of yukhoe bibimbap and large pork bulgogi

Regular yukhoe bibimbap, served with haejangguk broth

Ta-da~~ our regular yukhoe bibimbap and large pork bulgogi arrived~ Such generous portions.

Haejangguk broth served alongside the yukhoe bibimbap

The bibimbap came with haejangguk broth too, so it's two birds with one stone!!

They also give you gochujang to mix in, but honestly it was delicious even without adding any ❤️

A spoonful of mixed yukhoe bibimbap
Pork bulgogi piled onto the yukhoe bibimbap

It's delicious on its own, and also great with the pork bulgogi we ordered piled on top. Boksan Haejang isn't just for haejangguk — it's a pork bulgogi spot too!!

Throwing in a video of us digging in happily 😆 Popping the egg yolk and mixing it in is so, so good 😍

Sharing the large Boksan pork bulgogi with a child

Large pork bulgogi hahaha — last time I ordered the small one and my son said it wasn't quite enough, so this time I got the large... I stole a couple bites and my son scraped up every last bit 😅

They also gave us gim jaban (seasoned seaweed flakes) for my son to eat with.

Bulgogi piled on rice dipped in seaweed flakes

He scooped up a spoonful of rice, dipped it in the seaweed flakes, piled meat on top, and finished the whole plate of large bulgogi like that…🤣 And I ordered him a drink but he said the water was tastier?! It was like a barley tea, kind of nutty and delicious 👍

Yukhoe bibimbap bowl scraped clean

Is Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch worth a lunch with kids?

He scraped the plate completely clean 🤣 It was just that good haha

The pork bulgogi comes out a bit spicy with green onion shreds, but when I said my kid would be eating it, they gave us meat and seaweed flakes like that so my son's meal was sorted too. The haejangguk broth is nice and spicy, good for adults needing to shake off a hangover. Last time I had the haejang kalguksu but I'm a wimp with spice so it was too much for me 🤣 I think the yukhoe bibimbap is the best of all 👍 Good value, very satisfying — Boksan Haejang feels like a real find near Gongeobtap ❤️
