Mapo handmade burgers: shrimp and beef sets at Quokka Bite

Craving handmade burgers, I went to Quokka Bite (쿼카바이트) on Mapo’s Gyeongui Line Forest Park path. My boyfriend and I ordered the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger and the Grilled Quokka Burger as sets. Both had thick patties, but I especially liked the shrimp burger for its substantial pieces of shrimp.

Where is Quokka Bite, and is parking available?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 11 Baekbeom-ro 24-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It is about a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Daheung Station, and there is one free parking space in front of the restaurant.

The hours listed in the original post are 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily. There is a break from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and last orders are at 8:30 PM.

What is the seating like for a date or group meal?

The exterior had a quokka illustration, and there were terrace seats too. I thought eating outside on a nice day would feel a little like a picnic.

The indoor space was not large, but it was clean and comfortably arranged. It could seat about four to five parties. There were mainly two-person tables, and they could be joined together, so visiting in a group was possible.

How do you order and collect your food?

I paid first at the kiosk by the entrance. We ordered the Grilled Quokka Burger set and the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger set, changing the shrimp burger set’s side to onion rings.

When the food was ready, my number was called and I collected it at the counter. I could pick up napkins, straws, forks, ketchup, and more nearby, and there were Quokka stickers too. The sets came with a burger, a side, and a soft drink.

What did the Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger taste like?

Shrimp burgers are usually my favorite, and I was especially pleased with this one. The whole-shrimp patty was thick, and the brioche bun was soft. Its tangy coleslaw kept it from becoming too rich, so I finished it easily.

There were plenty of whole shrimp in the patty, so each bite felt full of shrimp. The ingredients were generous enough that one burger alone was filling.

How was the beef patty in the Grilled Quokka Burger?

My boyfriend chose the Grilled Quokka Burger with a beef patty. The rich cheddar cheese and salty bacon went well with it. The beef patty was juicy yet mild and savory, so it did not feel heavy.

How did the fries and onion rings differ?

The standard fries were thick and long, making them filling, with a mild, salty flavor. The onion rings had a sweet onion flavor inside. Since I like fried food, I also enjoyed dipping the onion rings in ketchup.

What is there to look around at inside the restaurant?

The restaurant sold various Quokka goods. A Quokka fan was ₩100.

The interior was decorated with Quokka dolls, and uniforms, aprons, and hats were displayed too, which made it fun to look around.

The compact space served a filling meal of burgers and sides, so I thought it suited a meal during a date along Gyeongui Line Forest Park. It is near my office, and I would like to try another burger at lunchtime next time.
