Seoul Station office lunch Set 2: gyukatsu and omurice at Furato

In short

Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) and Japanese-style omurice restaurant on basement level 1 of Seoul Square by Seoul Station. Visiting at lunchtime, the writer ordered Set 2, which brings both dishes together: the gyukatsu is grilled at the table in melted butter on a tabletop burner, while the omurice comes under a thick layer of soft egg. For a Seoul Station office lunch where picking just one dish is too hard, Set 2 at Furato Shokudo is a safe choice.

Gyukatsu set table setting at Furato Shokudo Seoul Square

Looking for somewhere to eat lunch near Seoul Station, I ended up at Furato Shokudo Seoul Square!

Where is Furato Shokudo Seoul Square, and how busy is it at lunch?

Furato Shokudo Seoul Square is located on the basement floor of Seoul Square, so it's a convenient spot for office workers near Seoul Station to grab lunch. When I visited during lunch hour, there were plenty of office worker customers, and there can be a wait during peak meal times, so I'd recommend checking ahead before you go.

One thing I really liked was that they use Catch Table! It's so much more convenient than showing up to a popular restaurant and blindly waiting in line — you can check waits or reservation availability ahead of time. Catch Table lets you check real-time reservations or waiting, so if you're planning a lunchtime visit, it's worth checking in advance.

Furato Shokudo's menu was more varied than I expected, so there was a lot to choose from. Besides their signature gyukatsu and Japanese-style omurice, they also have steki don (steak rice bowl), yakiniku don, and other Japanese dishes. You order through a QR code.

Set 2: gyukatsu and Japanese-style omurice in one order

What we ordered was Set 2! It lets you have both gyukatsu and Japanese-style omurice in one go, which was the perfect combo for when I couldn't decide on just one dish.

The gyukatsu doesn't come fully cooked from the start — the outside is fried crisp while the inside is nearly rare. So it comes with a small tabletop burner, and you grill it yourself to whatever doneness you like.

Once the butter melts, you place the gyukatsu pieces on the burner one at a time and they start sizzling — but if you grill them too long the meat can get tough, so it's better to only put on as much as you'll eat right away and grill it to your taste.

I cooked mine with the outside a bit more done, and I loved feeling both the crispy breading and the tender beef texture together. It was also much tastier dipped in the sauce or with a bit of wasabi rather than eaten plain.

The basic doenjang soup and salad were good, goes without saying!

The Japanese-style omurice and its thick layer of egg

A bit later the omurice arrived, and it caught my eye because the egg on top was much thicker than I expected. Furato Shokudo's Japanese-style omurice isn't the usual style where the egg is fully cooked and rolled up — instead, soft, fluffy egg blankets the fried rice underneath.

I cracked the egg open a bit and ate it with the rice — the egg texture was incredibly soft. It was fluffy yet moist, which went really well with the fried rice underneath. Add in the accompanying sauce and the softness of the egg mixed with the savory sauce keeps you coming back for one more bite! If you like omurice, ordering it as part of the set seems well worth it.

Is Furato Shokudo worth it for a Seoul Station lunch?

Visiting at lunchtime, I could see why so many office workers near Seoul Station come here. The gyukatsu especially isn't just served like a regular pork cutlet — grilling it yourself at the table adds a fun element, making it a good pick when an ordinary lunch feels a little lacking.

If you're like me and want both gyukatsu and omurice, I'd recommend Set 2. Both dishes are popular picks at Furato Shokudo, so ordering the set is perfect when you can't choose just one. And since it gets busy at lunchtime, I'd recommend checking Catch Table before you go!

If you're near Seoul Station or Seoul Square looking for a different kind of lunch, try Set 2 with gyukatsu and Japanese-style omurice at Furato Shokudo Seoul Square. I personally had a lot of fun grilling the gyukatsu myself over the burner, so next time I want to try some of their other dishes :)
