Hyehwa Taiwanese restaurant tiger fried rice: Cheonghwawon

I went on a date in Daehangno today and stumbled onto some seriously delicious Taiwanese beef noodles, so I wanted to share it with you ☺️ Knowing the food is cooked by someone from Taiwan made it feel even more exciting! Let's get into it.

Where is Cheonghwawon Daehangno Branch, and what are its hours?

Cheonghwawon is easy to find with just a short walk from Hyehwa Station Exit 4! The place is huge, but since the sign doesn't spell out 'Cheonghwawon' exactly, just look for that green neon sign and you'll spot it right away!

Inside Cheonghwawon: solo seats to group tables over two floors

Even just photographing the first floor, the place is really spacious, and there's everything from solo seats to group tables, which made it super convenient!

The interior feels like you've traveled abroad, and with a second floor too there's plenty of capacity — never worrying about seats made it super comfortable ☺️

This is how the menu was laid out! Besides Taiwanese beef noodles there's fried rice, fried dishes, dim sum, and more, so it seemed like a great place to try lots of different things! There's also a kiosk at every table where you can pay directly, which was perfect for an introvert like me who feels awkward ordering out loud haha

Free peanuts and pickled sides to start

First, peanuts and pickled side dishes came out as a complimentary starter. The peanuts had a salty coating on the outside that kept my chopsticks coming back for more... they were delicious. I cleared a whole plate before the food even arrived haha

What do Cheonghwawon's Taiwanese beef noodles taste like?

First the beef noodles arrived! This was my first time trying Taiwanese beef noodles, and the noodles were chewy and bouncy with a great bite, while the broth tasted a bit like doenjang soup...? plus something foreign, so it was easy to enjoy without any hesitation! It was really thick and had this comforting, almost hangover-curing quality to it, don't you think?

The meat inside wasn't dry at all — it was tender, so I enjoyed it a lot haha

Tiger fried rice: smoky egg fried rice at Cheonghwawon

Next up was the tiger fried rice, which I ordered because other reviews raved about it! I was so curious what it would taste like, and the moment I took a bite it was amazing — it had this Chinese-style egg fried rice flavor stir-fried in chili oil, and I can guarantee that if you like egg fried rice, you'll absolutely love this one..❤️

The subtle smoky char flavor was really great, and the umami was insane — personally, this was my favorite dish!

Cream shrimp with shrimp bigger than expected

And another must-order dish I really have to recommend is the cream shrimp..🍤 The shrimp were seriously huge and plump, and the batter outside was so crispy — it was incredibly delicious ㅠㅠ

These were genuinely the biggest shrimp I've ever seen in a cream shrimp dish... the balance with the cream sauce was so good too, so I strongly recommend you try this one as well..🫶 When it starts to feel a little rich, cutting it with the beef noodle broth lets you eat it on endless repeat haha

Cheonghwawon left me extremely satisfied! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a date spot or a solo dining spot in Daehangno, searching for a good lunch place in Daehangno, or hunting for a great beef noodle restaurant.
