Gimpo BBQ restaurant with a self-serve chive pancake bar: Galbigumteo
In short
Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork rib restaurant on Pungmu-ro in Gimpo, Gyeonggi. On a weeknight visit, each person got one slab of seasoned pork ribs (300g per portion) to grill over charcoal, plus buchujeon (chive pancake) fried at the self-serve bar with a single ladle of batter, steamed egg and a bowl of rice. Parking is available in front of and behind the restaurant, and the marinade at Galbigumteo is not overly sweet, making it a place worth returning to when a sweet-savory galbi craving hits.

After wrapping up a full day on a weekday, I headed to Galbigumteo for a mood-lifting, delicious dinner. That day I wasn't craving plain grilled meat but something sweet and sticky that clings to your mouth — seasoned pork ribs. So without much thought, I went straight to Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch in Pungmu-dong.

Parking and the dining room at Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch

When I arrived, there was parking right in front of the restaurant, and an even bigger lot behind the building, so parking was a breeze. These days it seems like parking stress follows you everywhere, so being able to park comfortably and walk right in made a great first impression.

The moment I stepped inside, the clean, spacious interior caught my eye. There were plenty of standard 4-person tables set with generous spacing between them, which made it seem quite suitable for family meals out or group gatherings like company dinners. Many customers who looked like locals were already grilling away — clearly this is a well-known pork rib restaurant in Pungmu-dong.

Frying your own buchujeon (chive pancake) at the self-serve bar
At Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch's self-serve bar, you can freely help yourself to basic side dishes like kimchi and sliced onion. What really stood out was a dedicated corner for frying your own jeon. The self-serve bar had pancake batter and mini pans set up, and by ladling out exactly one scoop as instructed and frying it, I had a crispy, savory buchujeon ready in no time. It was a fun little activity before the main meat arrived, and perfect for taking the edge off hunger.

The standard side dishes served were also quite substantial and varied. They brought out green onion kimchi, crunchy salad, pickled onions, and fresh leafy greens for wraps, among others. Since I usually like combining several side dishes with my meat, it was really handy to be able to mix and match to my taste.

Seasoned pork ribs: one 300g slab per person
Grilling the marinated ribs over charcoal
Soon after, today's star — the pork ribs — arrived along with glowing red charcoal. The heat that hit as soon as the charcoal came out was intense. The seasoned ribs came out at one portion per person, 300g each. They arrived rolled up with the bone still attached, and you could see with your own eyes how deeply the seasoning had soaked into every part of the meat.

They placed the ribs directly on the grill grate to cook. Seasoned meat usually worries me because it can burn easily or produce a lot of smoke, but the strong suction of the overhead hood meant I could grill comfortably without any smoke concerns. Thanks to the strong heat, the meat cooked quickly from the outside in. The thick meat had evenly spaced score marks cut into the surface, which let the seasoning soak in well and kept the cooking pace consistent.

Once the meat was cooked evenly on both sides, I picked up the scissors and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Flipping it diligently so it wouldn't burn, it cooked up to a beautiful golden brown with almost no smoke. Just looking at the juicy meat was enough to make my mouth water — a truly satisfying visit to this well-loved Pungmu-dong pork rib restaurant, Galbigumteo.

Steamed egg, rice and doenjang stew on the side
While the meat was grilling, the steamed egg I'd ordered as an extra arrived. Still steaming, it had a very soft texture that was easy to spoon up without any guilt. I also ordered a bowl of rice, and the doenjang (soybean paste) stew that came standard was so savory that mixing it into the rice with a piece of meat on top made for an irresistible combo — total rice thief.

How sweet is the galbi marinade?
The golden-grilled pork ribs weren't overly sweet — the seasoning hit just the right sweet-and-savory balance, so the meat was delicious enough to eat straight off the grill. It worked wonderfully wrapped in lettuce with green onion kimchi on top, and just as well piled onto warm rice, keeping my chopsticks busy without a pause. We polished off the whole grill between the two of us before we even noticed we were full.
This was a restaurant where you could park with ease and enjoy satisfying seasoned ribs in a spacious setting. Between the thoughtfully prepared side dishes and the self-serve buchujeon experience, Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch is a Pungmu-dong pork rib restaurant I'd love to revisit whenever I'm craving something sweet and savory.
