A steaming bowl of pork noodle soup is an absolute must on any Jeju trip! This time I visited a place near Gwakji Beach and Handam Beach that serves both deep, rich bone broth noodles and a unique spicy mala pork noodle version.
The base portions here are absolutely massive — ordering the extra-large size would have been a disaster. Here's my honest review of 'Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch,' an Aewol favorite!

Once seated, I looked over the menu and found a mouthwatering lineup — traditional noodles, trendy dishes, and sides, all thoughtfully arranged.
We ordered generously, including side dishes that pair perfectly with the noodles!

The window view: wind turbines over the Aewol sea
The moment I walked through the door, I gasped at the wide floor-to-ceiling window facing straight ahead!
White wind turbines spinning in a row over the blue Aewol sea filled the view — pure healing just staring out at the water before the food even arrived!
Baby chairs were well-stocked for anyone traveling with kids, and I saw families eating comfortably with young children.
Bone broth vs mala pork noodles: how big are the portions?
The noodles arrived piled high in a big bowl, and I was shocked the moment I took it — the base portion alone is huge. If we'd ordered the extra-large (+₩1,000), I think we wouldn't have been able to finish it.
The bone broth pork noodles, simmered for a long time, had a milky broth that spread rich, clean meaty flavor through the whole body the instant I took a sip — total comfort in a bowl!
Tender Jeju pork was piled generously on top, and slurping it up together with the chewy medium-thickness noodles doubled the savory flavor.
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch's specialty, the mala pork noodles, had spicy mala aroma swirled together with a nutty peanut sauce, so the flavor was spicy and savory without any of the usual spice-fatigue — pure umami explosion!
The seasoning soaked into the noodles with a spicy kick but no greasiness — anyone who loves mala would definitely fall for this unique dish.
It was convenient that any extra side dishes we needed could just be grabbed from the self-serve bar!
Sides at Handam Guksu: pork tteokgalbi and pork mandu
The side dishes we ordered to go along with the noodles were really satisfying too.
The handmade pork tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) came out golden and glossy, and the thick pieces burst with sweet-salty seasoning and savory juices the moment I bit in!
Crispy on the outside and tender inside, it was fantastic placed on top of the spicy mala noodles — a sweet-salty-spicy combo made in heaven.
The plump, juicy pork mandu (dumplings) were clean-tasting and chewy — dipped straight into the noodle broth, they were pure honey.
After writing a receipt review, we also got a Jeju tangerine crunch as a gift — perfect for dessert!
Why Handam Guksu is worth a stop on an Aewol coastal drive
A hearty bowl of noodles enjoyed while gazing out at the Aewol sea through the wide window, plus generous side dishes — everything about Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch was satisfying!
The base portions were so generous that this made a completely filling meal on its own, and the restaurant was clean with easy parking — a great stop on an Aewol drive course.
