Gimhae grilled tripe with garlic sauce: Miracle Yang Gopchang

In short

Miracle Yang Gopchang is a grilled beef tripe restaurant in Yulha 2 District, Gimhae, Gyeongnam. We had three portions of garlic-marinated grilled tripe and large intestine, then two portions of gopchang-jeongol (beef offal hot pot), with so-maek mixed drinks. Miracle Yang Gopchang is a great one-stop spot for drinks and a satisfying second round.

At around 7:30 on Friday evening, the two of us visited Miracle Yang Gopchang (미라클양곱창) for some grilled beef tripe and a so-maek mixed drink. We had reserved, but there was no separate wait, and we properly ate our way from grilled meat to gopchang-jeongol (beef offal hot pot) all in one place haha. (Took care of the second round in one go..)

Miracle Yang Gopchang location and parking in Yulha 2 District

Miracle Yang Gopchang is tucked inside Yulha 2 District. It is slightly off the busy street, so I imagine quite a few people still do not know about it. It is a delicious place, but it felt a little unfortunate that its location may have kept it from getting more attentionㅠ Still, you can park in the space beside the restaurant, so it is fairly convenient to visit by car.

An interior with a gravel floor

The first thing that caught my eye when we went inside was the floor. Part of the space was covered in gravel, so even indoors it felt a bit like an outdoor tent bar. Haha. (The weather has warmed up lately, and I am really craving outdoor drinking spots..) The black tables and chairs kept everything neat, and every table had its own ventilation system. It had a slightly different atmosphere from a typical gopchang restaurant, so it was fun just looking around.

Ordering grilled meat and gopchang-jeongol

The two of us first ordered three servings of grilled salt-seasoned meat, then added two servings of gopchang-jeongol. We ordered one bottle of soju and two beers and went for so-maek haha.

Side dishes that cut through the richness

A nice variety of side dishes that went well with the grilled meat came out. There was kimchi, assorted jangajji (pickled vegetables), pickled perilla leaves, and fresh seasoned lettuce, all good for eating between bites of tripe and large intestine. Rich cuts like large intestine can become a little heavy if you keep eating them, but the tangy side dishes and perilla leaves cut the richness, so we could keep going without getting tired of it.

Garlic sauce-marinated special tripe and large intestine

The grilled meat arrives with special tripe and large intestine thoroughly marinated in garlic sauce. Potatoes and king oyster mushrooms come on the grill too, making it a pretty generous spread. There was plenty of minced garlic coating the tripe and large intestine, and this garlic sauce was the key to the grilled meat here. As it cooked, the garlic aroma and seasoning soaked in naturally, so it had clear savory depth even on its own.

The owner grilled the meat for us personally. They cooked each cut to the right point and told us which side dishes tasted best with it, so we could eat comfortably. Just eat it the way the owner recommends. Seriously, that is the tastiest way haha.

Springy special tripe and rich large intestine

The special tripe had a springy yet chewy bite, and the garlic seasoning kept it from tasting plain. It had none of that tough feeling; I just kept reaching for more. The large intestine really delivered its rich, nutty fat flavor. Browned on the outside and soft within, it was a great so-maek drinking snack. Thanks to the garlic sauce, its signature richness never felt excessive.

Best of all, there was none of that characteristic off smell haha.

How to eat potatoes with special tripe

Personally, the surprising pairing was potato and special tripe. We tried them together as the owner suggested, and the soft potato and chewy tripe matched far better than I expected. The potato soaked up just enough of the meat fat and garlic sauce, making it really tasty. It was my first time eating potato and tripe this way, and I think I will keep thinking about this combination haha.

Tangy sauce and pickled perilla leaf pairings

The garlic-marinated grilled meat is delicious enough by itself, but dipping it in the separately served sauce changes the flavor again. It is lightly tangy with strong savory depth, neatly cutting through the richness of the large intestine. This sauce went so well with both tripe and large intestine. One piece of meat, one sip of so-maek, and the drinks just kept going haha. If you are looking for a grilled tripe restaurant in Gimhae, I hope you try this sauce combination.

I also recommend wrapping it in pickled perilla leaves. The distinctive aroma of perilla leaf and the tangy pickle flavor made it much less tiring than eating only meat continuously. Alternate it with the fresh seasoned lettuce or other pickles, and three servings of grilled meat disappear faster than you would think haha.

From so-maek to gopchang-jeongol in one place

That day, we ordered one bottle of soju and two beers and drank so-maek. The garlic-sauce tripe and large intestine dipped in tangy sauce were perfect with drinks. We considered eating only the grilled meat and moving somewhere else for a second round, but the atmosphere was comfortable and the food was good, so we decided to stay here for gopchang-jeongol too haha.

Gopchang-jeongol simmered down for the broth

Gopchang-jeongol costs ₩17,000 per serving, with a minimum order of two servings. We ordered two servings as well. It was much tastier when we kept it bubbling at the table and simmered the broth down than when it first arrived. As time passed, the broth became deeper in flavor and the seasoning soaked nicely into the offal and vegetables.

It felt like we did the first round with grilled meat, then took care of the second round with gopchang-jeongol and so-maek all at once haha. The two of us ate all the way through at Miracle Yang Gopchang without moving somewhere else.

Friendly service with the meat grilled for you

We visited on Friday evening, and the owner was really kind. Beyond grilling the meat personally, they explained each delicious combination one by one, which made for a very pleasant meal. I liked that they showed us unfamiliar pairings without making them feel intimidating, and thanks to them I discovered the potato-and-tripe combination too haha. It is a little unfortunate that it seems not to be widely known yet because it is inside Yulha 2 District, but I liked both the food and the friendly service enough that I plan to return.

The garlic-marinated special tripe and large intestine dipped in tangy sauce had a flavor that really stood out. With the kind owner grilling everything personally and gopchang-jeongol available for a full second round, Miracle Yang Gopchang is somewhere I want to revisit whenever I am craving grilled tripe and so-maek in Yulha haha.
