Bangbae-dong family dinner with bomal porridge: Naegohyang Jeju
In short
Naegohyang Jeju is a Jeju-style Korean restaurant on Donggwang-ro in Bangbae-dong, Seocho, Seoul. For a family dinner we ordered bomal-juk (top shell porridge), spicy minneo croaker stew and a mixed sashimi platter for three: the bomal-juk came loaded with top shells and the croaker stew broth was clean and sharply spicy. With a private room and wide, well-spaced tables, Naegohyang Jeju goes back on the shortlist for meals with parents or relatives.

Why we chose Naegohyang Jeju for a family dinner in Bangbae-dong
Naegohyang Jeju (내고향 제주) in Bangbae-dong is a Jeju-style Korean restaurant on Donggwang-ro, open daily from 11:30 to 21:00. When I was trying to find somewhere for a family meal in Bangbae-dong, picking a menu turned out to be harder than expected.
Korean BBQ places are everywhere, and I didn't want somewhere that was all atmosphere and no substance — I wanted a place my parents could enjoy comfortably too. That's how I ended up at Naegohyang Jeju in Bangbae-dong. Even the name gives off strong Jeju vibes.

Inside Naegohyang Jeju: private room and table spacing
Naegohyang Jeju isn't just a restaurant that happens to serve Jeju food — the space itself really captures the Jeju feel. The stone décor catches your eye, and overall it's clean while still full of details that evoke Jeju.
What made it especially good for a family gathering was that the tables are wide and the space feels roomy. There's also a separate private room, which seemed like it would really matter if you're eating with family or gathering with several people.

What we ordered at Naegohyang Jeju
On this visit we ordered bori-jjuk (bowl-shell porridge), minutes spicy croaker stew, and a 3-person mixed sashimi platter — that's what we ate.

Bomal-juk (top shell porridge) — generous with the shells
First, the bori-jjuk (bowl-shell porridge). I've had bori-jjuk a few times in Jeju itself so I wasn't expecting much, but Naegohyang Jeju really loads it up with bowl-shell. It made me think, 'does bori-jjuk usually have this much bowl-shell in it?'
Honestly it felt even more generous than what I'd eaten in Jeju. Being porridge, it's easy on the stomach while still delivering that distinct bowl-shell flavor — a great first dish to order.

Spicy minneo croaker stew — clean, sharply spicy broth
Then the minutes spicy croaker stew. The broth really impressed me — clean, sharp, and with that refreshing quality distinct to fish stews.
It wasn't spicy just for the sake of being spicy — it paired really well with rice. If you're eating sashimi and start craving something warm, ordering this alongside is a great combo.

Mixed sashimi for three — abalone and sea squirt included
The 3-person mixed sashimi platter, which you could call the main event, was quite satisfying too. It comes with a wide variety — tuna, salmon, flounder, rockfish, plus abalone and sea squirt.
Rather than just one or two kinds, this was great for a group where everyone could pick what they liked. Above all, the fish was fresh and beautifully plated.
At a family gathering, taste matters, but how nicely the food is presented on the table matters too, in a quiet way. On that front, the overall spread felt clean and thoughtfully arranged.

How were the side dishes?
Honestly, I care about side dishes almost as much as the main menu, and at Naegohyang Jeju the sides were clean and well made across the board.
Every single one tasted good, so I kept reaching for them while waiting for the mains. It gave me the impression of a restaurant that pays attention to detail.

Service and overall impression
The staff were kind too. Nothing about the meal felt uncomfortable, and overall we had a relaxed, easy time eating.
Maybe because of that, what stuck with me from this visit wasn't so much 'I ate delicious Jeju food' as 'this was a really comfortable place to eat with family.'

Who is Naegohyang Jeju best for?
If you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Bangbae-dong and want something a bit different from the usual menu, Naegohyang Jeju is a solid choice. From bori-jjuk, a dish commonly found in Jeju, to the croaker stew and mixed sashimi, there's enough variety that a family with different tastes won't struggle to pick something.
Especially for meals with parents, family birthdays, or relative gatherings — occasions where you want to make a bit more of an effort — having a private room is a real plus.
If you're after a Seocho restaurant with a slightly different menu, or looking for a Jeju food spot in Bangbae-dong, it's worth adding to your shortlist. Personally, out of everything we ate that day, the bori-jjuk with its generous bowl-shell and the clean, sharp minutes spicy croaker stew stuck with me the most.
Ordering the mixed sashimi on top of that made it feel less like a single meal and more like a leisurely family gathering, sharing several dishes together.
If I'm looking for a place for a family gathering in Bangbae-dong, I think I'd put this back on my shortlist.
