In short

Odeng Osaek Gangnam Station Branch is a Japanese-style oden bar izakaya in Seocho, Seoul, about a 5-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 7. The Japanese handmade oden moriawase (24,000 won) and grilled kirimochi (8,500 won) paired well with Sen, a sake from Hokkaido, and the house Odeng Osaek liquor, while counter seats and a terrace suit both a date and a solo drink. Odeng Osaek is the place to remember once the cold wind starts and hot broth with handmade fish cakes sounds right.

Entrance and arrival at Odeng Osaek Gangnam Station Branch

The wood-toned interior felt spacious and clean at first glance. Even with a lot of tables filling the hall, the layout considered traffic flow so it never felt cluttered.

It was impressive that guests naturally found seats matching their party size without much guidance. The connected line of tables can also work as group seating, so it seems like a good spot for gatherings or work dinners too.

The indoors was still air-conditioned, so if you like cool autumn breezes, the terrace at this Sinnonhyeon Station bar might be the way to go.

What we ordered at Odeng Osaek Gangnam Station Branch

The complimentary starter at Odeng Osaek

Serving a canapé of tuna on a plain cracker as the basic side dish — what quality!! I love finger food like this.

What we ordered: Japanese handmade oden moriawase (₩24,000), grilled kirimochi (₩8,500), Sen (₩12,000), and Odeng Osaek liquor (₩6,000).

Japanese handmade oden moriawase (assorted fish cake platter), 24,000 won

This place, full of oden pride, lets you enjoy the charm of five kinds of oden, and apparently only uses quality fish cakes with a good fish-meat content. So I went with the authentic moriawase made of carefully selected Japanese handmade oden.

Even if you don't know the names, you'll remember the shapes and textures of oden at this Sinnonhyeon Station bar — it's served already cooked, so you just dip it in the broth to warm it up and eat right away, which is nice.

Grilled kirimochi (grilled rice cakes), 8,500 won

Grilled kirimochi — Japanese-style glutinous rice cake grilled and dipped in sweet honey — was the perfect late-night snack for a hungry moment.

Sen, a Hokkaido sake (300ml), 12,000 won

Part of the fun of coming to a Japanese-style fish cake bar is matching the mood with sake, right? Looking through the easy-drinking lineup, I started with Sen, from Hokkaido.

And then the house traditional liquor from Odeng Osaek, with its subtle, fragrant chrysanthemum aroma~

It's not the kind of dish you boil vigorously and eat — it's meant to be enjoyed while still gently warm, so I found myself eating slowly and taking my time. The clean broth stood on its own, and the chewy handmade oden was a delicacy too!!

The assortment had one piece of each kind, and they were thick enough and had such good texture that even sharing nicely between us, we still got full. The space had comfortable lighting instead of dark, harsh lights, so chatting away over delicious handmade oden, time flew by.

The canapé worked well as a palate cleanser midway through~~ the tuna had all the oil drained off, with just a faint mushroom aroma, and overall it was clean-tasting and addictive — it paired well with any snack or drink.

Chewy, bouncy, and clean-tasting handmade fish cake that you never get tired of no matter how much you eat — once you try it, I think it's the kind of place you'll keep thinking about and come back to.

I turned down the grilled rice cake at first, thinking, 'why eat grilled mochi at a Japanese-style oden bar,' even though I'm a total rice cake lover — but if I hadn't eaten it, I think I'd have regretted it for a long time. Crispy outside, soft and chewy inside, with a nutty flavor — it felt like injeolmi and garaetteok mixed into one.

Final verdict on Odeng Osaek Gangnam Station Branch

It was a fun time with delicious handmade fish cake and warm broth. Getting the cute fish cup from the event made it even more memorable.

If you want a date filled with tasty fish cake once the cold wind starts blowing, I highly recommend this great-atmosphere bar near Sinnonhyeon Station, packed with five kinds of charm.
