Scorched rice stone-plate jjamppong in Milyang: Milyang Dol Jjamppong

In short

Milyang Dol Jjamppong is a stone-plate jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) Chinese restaurant on Baekmin-ro in Milyang, Gyeongnam. A couple arrived for an early lunch at 11am and ordered nurungji dolpan jjamppong (scorched rice stone-plate jjamppong) plus the chitang & dontang set of fried chicken and pork tangsuyuk, with staff explaining how to dip the bean sprouts into the broth to cook them before eating them with the noodles. The broth at Milyang Dol Jjamppong thickened as it simmered on the hot plate, and the crisp chicken and pork made it a satisfying lunch.

What kind of restaurant is Milyang Dol Jjamppong?

Milyang Dol Jjamppong is a Chinese restaurant on Baekmin-ro in Milyang, Gyeongnam, known for its signature stone-plate jjamppong. My husband and I had some errands in Milyang today, and we came to Milyang Dol Jjamppong for lunch because I wanted the stone-plate jjamppong!

I've been to Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong before, and apparently it's the same brand as Milyang Dol Jjamppong haha^^ I really enjoyed it that time too, so I was so curious whether the taste here would be different or exactly the same!

Parking and the dining room at Milyang Dol Jjamppong

Milyang Dol Jjamppong has plenty of parking, plus a free parking lot right next to the restaurant, so you don't need to worry about parking! I visited at 11am, which is early for lunch, so I parked right in front of the restaurant.

Once inside, the restaurant was quite spacious with plenty of tables, so I'd guess the turnover is really fast even when lunch crowds pour in! We sat down and ordered through the table-order kiosk^^

Ordering the scorched rice stone-plate jjamppong and chitang & dontang set

At Milyang Dol Jjamppong, we ordered the nurungji (scorched rice) stone-plate jjamppong and the chitang & dontang set.

  • ✔️ Chitang is chicken tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour) 🍗
  • ✔️ Dontang is pork tangsuyuk 🥩

The basic side dishes you can't skip at a Chinese restaurant — onion and pickled radish — came out right away!

Not long after, the main dish, the nurungji dolpan jjamppong, arrived looking incredibly hearty! Piled high with bean sprouts, it looked delicious just from the visual.

How do you cook the bean sprouts in the broth?

The staff told us it tastes even better if you dip the bean sprouts deep into the jjamppong broth to cook them slightly before eating them with the noodles.

Right now there's still plenty of broth, but as time passes it reduces and gets thicker and thicker, so it was fun being able to enjoy the dolpan jjamppong in different flavors over the course of the meal.

At Milyang Dol Jjamppong, a well-known spot near Yeongnamnu in Milyang, there's plenty of seafood too, and the seafood had a really chewy, satisfying bite^^ The broth soaked really well into the jjamppong noodles too, so the seasoning was spot on, and I ended up slurping the noodles down like crazy.

What do the fried chicken and pork tangsuyuk taste like?

We also ordered a cider, another must at a Chinese restaurant, and drank it down cold! And then the chitang & dontang came out right after^^ Just like you always order tangsuyuk when you get jjamppong at a Chinese restaurant, chitang & dontang is a must if you come to this Milyang Chinese restaurant, Dol Jjamppong.

Can you see the gorgeous look of the fried food? It was fried so, so well ❤️ The chitang and dontang, with their crispiness coming through clearly, had a completely different charm in texture! The chitang tasted exactly like boneless fried chicken, and the dontang felt like eating pork cutlet. Right when it started feeling a bit greasy, scooping up some of the leftover nurungji from the dolpan jjamppong wiped away the greasiness with its spiciness!

What do you get after the meal?

Near the end of our meal at Milyang Dol Jjamppong, I looked to the side and there was yogurt and coffee set up. This place really goes all out on dessert too! I finished off cleanly with the yogurt^^ Why does a sip of yogurt and coffee after a meal taste so good?
